Question about Zanussi Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a zannusi electrolux washing machine (ZWF 1432 W) and i have reason to beleive that one of the bearings inside has been damaged due to wear and tear. i have dismantled the machine to the stage, where i have the drum on a work bench. the stainless steel drum is surrounded by a cast plastic housing, there is no clear way of splitting this into the front and back sections in order to remove the drum and then the bearings. i have looked for spare parts and both halves can be purchased and look as though they screw together, is this so? and if so how does it seal when it is put together? i am also having some trouble removing the driven pulley as i do not know wether or not the bolt is right or left handed thread. i have tried it both ways and have also tried heat as a method of loosening the thread. any feed back would be greatly appriciated. thank you for your time regards John Carter

Hi probably not what you want to here but youcant recondition the welded type tub . the spare part for complete welded drum assy is 348415810-4 at £198 is not cheap. If you can find doner machine with drum that splits you can recondition that unit and fit that , you need the shock absorbers as well as they are different to the welded drrum ones. there variations to temp sensor positions some are in the heater some are in the drum. .yours is in the heater if you find one with hole in the drum you need a grommet and sensor just to block the hole off.

Further I forgot . to remove the pulley screw (normal thread) Jam the pulley spokes with wood into the slots of the drum housing. use a good quality correct sized allen or torx key (which ever is) extend the leverage of the allen key with metal tubing and use brute force to loosen/ you may need someone else to hold the drum assy (its easier with the pulley locked with the drum.)

I have the same problem. How can any firm justify making a unit that is this unservicable in these times of environmental concern. I think this should be illegal and will be writing to electrolux/zanussi. Regards Paul K

Do you have a repair manual for Electrolux inverter eww 14912 please?

I was an Electrolux engineer of long standing, just so you know.
The job you are thinking of undertaking will be a major repair, and you need to think long and hard whether it is worth the effort and expense involved I have never seen a manual for bearing replacements available to the general public; and I worked on washers for 50 years.
First, you need to check if your machine has a 'welded wash tub' - ie, are the two halves of the wash tub welded together or held with rawlplug type bolts? if welded you will have to replace the complete assembly; if bolted can can drive in new bearings BUT its likely you will need a new water heater. You will certainly need a new tub seal, bearings, water seal. Its likely bronze collar on the water seal/drum shaft will be scoured, and you will probably need a new wash drum too. If you don't replace this, your new bearings will last about a month and fail again. If the bearings have leaked oil and grease into the motor you may need a new motor; and the unbalanced drum will probably caused wear to the tub suspension dampers too. Also consider how you are going to remove the tub assy from the washer as the case isnt easy to take apart, or may well be wrap around.....
To be honest, unless you are a very competent engineer I would suggest buying a new machine. It's going to be very expensive to repair, IF you can get the parts. A job like that would take two experienced men 2 hours typically due to the weights involved in lifting, etc.

Electrolux w4180h unbalanced error

Modern electronic machines have out of balance protection to prevent the machine damaging itself with an out of balance load. You CAN NOT wash just one item - for example One jumper - or any out of balance load for this reason. Add more clothes - or balance the load

Could the problem be. Cos it's jumping around and loosening the screw in the centre ?

Here you have AEG, ELECTROLUX, ZANNUSI or PRIVILEG - good washing machines.
If its jumping then spinning with clothes it could be shock- absorbers problem (You could see them inside in middle). If it make realy big noise - bearings are "dead".
But in this video I cant see any problems.

Mentioned scerws are only for transportation. If you put them back your washing machine will jump like crazy :). (please, dont try it).

Loud crunching noise when spinning really noisey

The bearings of the basket, are damage, maybe due to water leaking and getting rusted, or maybe the shocks are also wearing off. expensive fix on the drum basket.

Error E20 means the machine has failed to pump out. 1st check the filter at the bottom right hand side there may still be water inside if so pull the grey tab to the left of the filter there should be a thin hose extend it put it into a shallow dish and pull the cap off to let the water drain this may be a slow process. When the filters out look into the hole with a torch to see if any obstructions in the pump impeller this looks like a cross. If the filters and pump are clear it may be the pump has failed.

Zanussi Electrolux ZWF 1430 W (E20 error)

Check water "forreign object trap". It's under the lid at the bottom of the machine. First drain water by pulling out the hose and pull out the plug. Then unscrew the trap. Have had this E20 error twice. First it was two coins there, next it was a big paperclip. Have worked fine ever since.11_20_2011_8_57_27_am.jpg
