Question about Denon D-C30 Shelf System

1 Answer

The tape deck of my Denon D-C30 is'nt working, the drive belt is broken and when I switch on there is a clicking noise coming from the tape deck this stops after about 10 seconds and I can play the other systems ie radio, cd's and aux. but often a 1amp fuse blows and nothing works. I can replace the fuse ok but it's a pain. I can't find a repairer in my area nor can I get any info on it. Even if I could disconnect the tape deck I would be happy as I was'nt using it much now Can you help? John

Actually when you switch on the system the set is trying to get back to rest mode but is not able as the motor dirve is not working due to the belt failure. The mode switch must be reset by the loading motor so that the system comes to a normal halt. So because this is not happening you must try to turn the mode switch to rest. Once this is done on switch on you will be able to get access to any mode but if would be good iff you can get the belt replaced so that on switch on the mode switch is reconfirmed. If you dont get any belt use a similar type of a band/ rubber /cord so as to make it run. So check this out. Good day

There may be a separate motor for the play function and either it or a drive belt has failed.

Denon drw585. Both decks will not close with tape inserted. No other signs of life except light in rear of cavity. Roller mech seems to be blocking tape entry. Is it a sensor switch/arm? Thanks.

It seems to me that the mechanism has got stuck in play mode, or at least was ready to go into play mode. It's either down to a cog mechanism that moves the parts into place and has become jammed, or that a belt that moves the mechanism forward has come off.

Tape deck won't open or play.

If you have a cassette in the machine sometimes it will spew tape through out the mechanical sector and lock the door shut and won't play, the tricky part is to get the door to open, unless you can remove the outer shell "push up" might pop off, or set screws remove outer piece will come off. If not sure take it to a service shop.

DC30 Denon cassette deck Drive belt broken Are spares available? Are there instruction on how to replace drive belts?

Hi J,

Sorry no solution for you. But I was wondering if you managed to fix yours. My D-C30 just has the same issue. 10 seconds of clicking and reading on another thread it sounds like the drive belt is broken and needs fixing.

Did you manage to find any instructions or spares etc to do this?

cheers
Nick

Denon Stereo audio cassette deck DR-M30HX traction prob thin tape

Belts for decks are universal, there are plenty of places on the web selling them. Parts for a Denon from 25 years ago is another matter. However I think you might need only the belts, as the longer tapes speed problems suggest that it's the load that's causing the belts to struggle. All you need to do is measure the diameter of any belts for replacement. HOWEVER before you remove them make a note, or photographer, how and where they fit.
Use Servisiol Video 40 to clean the rollers and head.

That guy (Dries Hyman) has no idea what is he talking about. I have the same problem with my D-C30, and solution is simple, all you need its change the tape deck belt. (but, its very hard to access it if you going to do it by your self)

A. REAL SPEAKER CONNECTION B. CASSETT RECORDER NOT ENGAGING

A Real Speaker Jacks..
There should be a switch position on your system that you move to allow the sound to come out to standard speaker configuration or to multiple speaker configuration.
This switch may be on the front or rear panel.

Please have alook to see if its there....
Its possible the these Real speaker jacks are not wired to anything inside the amp system, and are there for use on a different model where the selector switch is supplied.

B Cassett Deck..
The clicking is caused by the motor trying to drive the wheels that turn the cassett tape.
It sounds like something is jamming the internal drive mechanism.
The drive belt may have come off or is stretched and is slipping.

Have a good look inside the front slot and you may see one of these items described above happening..

It may have to be serviced at a workshop.

Cheers From YUBEUT.

Denon DRM 740 tape does not play

Just bought a unit from a thrift store. Found same problem; FF & RW OK, but play engages then stops. Also noticed buzzing noise when power turned on. Opened unit, found broken capstan drive belt. FF & RW driven from different motor. Buzz was drive motor running freely with no load - when power is on, capstan is driven all the time for fast play/record start. Replaced with rubber band, and it works --- now looking for replacement belt.
