If you hear the pump trying to do the job but with no result then you must not strain the washer. First of all shut off and get access to the drain, open out the hose and fittings connected to the pump and check for accumulation of waste/dirt. this could have cclogged up the pump. So remove and back flush or clean .Use a jet hose or ari hose to clear out the dirt and confirm the passage. The replace the pump and check out. I am sure it must work. Good day

Dishwasher will not drain I think it:s the pump

It will help if you provide the make and model of dishwasher. There can be several reasons for dishwasher not draining. The most common is blocked filters or drain hose. Also ensure the kitchen side of drain is clear. If pump is running but making grinding sounds then something is blocking the drain pump. If you do not hear pump running sound then the dishwasher may not even be getting to the drain cycle for other reasons.

Intake / drain does not drain

verify you hear the pump running when it is supposed to be draining. If you don't hear the pump running, then you probably need to have a service person come out.

If you can hear it running, then then check the drain hose going to the kitchen sink drain if that is where it drains to. I have seen it where the rubber drain hose was left too long and when the dishwasher was push into place, it kinked the hose, preventing it from draining.

Dishwasher will not drain

If you can close the door, turn the control to drain and, can hear the motor running; you have a clog under the pump screen in the back of the Dish Washer preventing the pump impeller from turning
if you hear nothing: reset the house circuit breaker.
to fix: while the DW is on turn off the DW house circuit breaker then remove the pump screen and, remove the broken glass etc. from the pump then: repower and, test.

Whirlpool dishwasher won't drain? Model#DU5000xw

When it is suppose to be draining, do you hear the pump running.
If not, then the pump or controller/timer is bad. If the controller is sending power to the pump and the pump doesn't run, it's the pump. If no power is getting to the pump, then the controller is bad.
You'll need a voltmeter and know-how to diagnose this electrical problem. This is high-voltage power with water in the area. So please don't try to use a voltmeter unless you are confident of your skills.

If you do hear the pump, then the drain valve (solenoid) is the problem.

The solenoid valve and the pump are all underneath the unit. Accessibility from the front, bottom panel.

If this helps you, please select YES to one of the first two ratings questions. Thank you, and Good Luck.

Water does not drain

For the water to drain, the controller must send power to the water pump and the solenoid (drain) valve.
If you hear the pump running when it should be draining then the controller and pump are working and the solenoid is bad (usually the case).
If you don't hear the pump running during the drain mode, then either the pump is bad or the controller is bad (not sending power to the pump).
Also, check that you do not have debris inside the dishwasher where the water drains. This is around the spindle in the bottom of the dishwasher cabinet where the spray arm comes up.

If this helps you, please select YES to one of the first two ratings questions. Thank you, and Good Luck.

Dishwasher is full of water cannot drain

If you can hear the pump running during a drain cycle then there may be something blocking the drain hose. A cherry pit for example. Look underneath the DW where the hose connects to the outlet of the pump. If you do not hear the pump running then it is the problem.

Maytag dishwasher won't drain water

It may be a water pump issue. You need to run it through a cycle and listen to hear if the pump is trying to run when it should drain. If you hear the pump running, but nothing is draining, you likely have a clog somewhere either going to or in the drain hose.
