Question about Samsung HLR5067WX 50" Rear Projection HDTV

SAMSUNG HLS5086WX/XAA Hello, I stumbled across this web page and am hoping it will help solve some of my questions. I just had this TV sent from overseas from the US to Germany where I am stationed. Upon arrival it does not turn on. When I hit the power button the light turns green, and then turns off and the STD BY / LAMP LED goes flashing red. I removed the back cover to see if I could see anything happening, and it appears that the light turns on very briefly, and then turns off. I have never worked on a DLP TV, and have no idea where a good place to start is. I would think the bulb is fine if it powers up. I removed the light and reseated about 3-4 connections with no improvements. I am somewhat electronically competent and should be able to gain access to multimeters and any other instruments i might need. I was wondering if there is an easy way to test the ballast, or would it be ok as well if it was able to power on the bulb even tho brief. If not the ballast, are any of these symptoms pointing towards the DMD board? If you have any sugjestions, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

    I have the same problem!!!!!

I replaced the lamp and then the colorwheel.

The noise in the TV went away with the new colorwheel but the picture was bad ( reds and blues swapped ).

Then I checked this sight and found out there may be a what they call a "Jumper" that has to be removed and so I did that.

The TV worked awesome that night and when I turned it back on the next morning there was no picture so I am not sure if it is now a ballast problem or a board or whatever......I need some help please!!!!

A few days ago, TV was automatically turned off after 10 min. later when I turned on TV. Then it never came back. Whenever I push any button on the remote control after turning on TV, no picture that I can see and only TIMER in front of TV is showing. I thought I misused to set up timer, which I've never done to use, but as I read others problems, it seems nothing to do with timer and it is not only my problem.

I am getting crazy... Please let me get out of this issue. If I need to repair, do you know how much it is going to cost?

I have the same problem. I have a Samsung HLS5086 DLP and one day the set just shut off. The three lights on the front: standby, timer, bulb lights were flashing green. The set melodies on but 3 seconds later melodies off. I replaced the DMD 2 months ago because I had millions of white dots on the screen. I also thought that it was the bulb and changed that as well but the problem still persists. I was told that it may be the ballast.

Try checking to see if LED1(OP100) on the analog board turns on. If not, check if DMD fan is running. Also, check the cables connected to the ballast, DMD board, analog board, and power board. Post what you find.

I have the same tv that i'm working on. If the two lights on the front are flashing check the switch in the back of the tv that keeps the tv from working when the cover is off. The switch is located on the back and right in the middle of the chassis. Make sure its not damaged from shipping.

I have the same problem, I just changed the colorwheel and lamp on my DLP TV ( HLR5064w).
Then I had some picture issues, the reds and blues swapped.
So then I found out it was a what they call a " Jumper " that had to be removed.
After that the tv worked awesome, but the next morning when I turned it on there was no picture so now is it a ballast or board problem????????

I need help please.....thanks

Samsung HLS5086WX/XAA made popping noise and shut off, then made whirring noise.

When my TV did this in the past it ended up being the color wheel. I had someone replace it and it worked fine. I asked it if had to be calibrated after it is installed and he said no. Also make sure the door switch is pushed down when you install the back bulb door. Sometimes this switch can go bad as well.

Samsung TV Model HLS5086WX/XAA turns off by itself

Not clear if set makes it on or not---its a DLP which uses a lamp for brightness so start there and next would be to inspect the color wheel that faces it directly--no broken or missing pieces there?

How do I replace a lamp ballast in my Samsung model # HLS5086WX/XAA?

The ballast should come out fairly easy---at the end of the 2 red wires where it connects to the lamp should be a single screw and the lamp has to be already removed---with the screw at the wire end removed the socket lifts up and to one side and the actual ballast is secured with no more than 4 screws and has only one or two small plugs to remove

You might also check You Tube to see if they have video instructions there for your model.

White dots on screen of 50 Samsung DLP

Random dots or pixels failing on a DLP TV will be a bad DMD chip. This is a technician replace item only. The chip runs around 160 dollars list price. The part number will depend on which version the set uses and will be determined by the technician.
