Question about NetGear MR814 Wireless Router

1 Answer

When I connect my computer to Netgear MR814v3 router via wire, I can get internet on my computer. However, when I try to connect wireless internet, I can see my router's SSIP (the name I gave for my wireless network). When I click "connect", it says that "Windows is unable to connect to (the name of my wireless network". I have tried connecting wireless from two computers, one runs Windows 7 and the other one runs Windows XP. I have no luck so far. Can you please help me? P.S. I have reseted my router back to factory settings.

Hi jessicaxiejw, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
Can you log into the router and check if the router is using WEP or WPA encryption and if it is you will need to set this up on the wireless p.c connections with the encryption key.
What is the make and model number of the router ?

You have to enter the router password on every wireless device you want to connect to the internet. You usually only have to do it once per device, but it won't connect without the password. The password it's looking for may be on the label on the router or in the wireless setup page of the router.

After doing a reset on the router, check ip address of your pc. If pc is getting 192.168.x.x, that means that the dhcp server of the router is still functioning.

You can do a FIRMWARE UPGRADE ON YOUR ROUTER.

You can contact Netgear tech support so they can look at this also.

Good Day

You need to go into the netgear router settings online with a computer that is attached to the router. You enter this:192.168.0.1 in the address bar to gain access. You need to know your username and password to gain access to the menu. Then check the wireless settings to see or change the passphrase. Good Luck

If the cables supplied have RJ45 connectors then they are used for connecting and configuring the wireless settings in Netgear router and to connect the Netgear to the DSL modem foe Internet access.
Most likely the color of the cables is not important.
To configure the wireless settings, connect a cable from one of the LAN ports (not the WAN/Internet port) to the LAN port on your computer. You may remove this cable after configuring the wireless settings if you want to connect to the Netgear by wireless only. You need to connect other computers to the Netgear's LAN port with a cable if they do not have wireless cards installed in these computers.

The other LAN cable is used to connect the Netgear WAN/Internet port to the DSL modem so you computers can connect to the Internet via the Netgear router.

Follow these instructions to configure the Netgear router.

Trying to conect laptop to virgin media with netgear wireless adaptor the signal is strong but could not conect windows say to contact provider provider gave me number to enter 192.168.0.1 now i am lost

The router is not connected to the internet via Virgin media.

Your computer is connected only to the router wirelessly, that is why it says contact your internet supplier on how to connect the router successfully!

Have you tried to reset router. It has to be done in order.
1. unplug router
2. unplug modem
3. shut down computer and restart after waiting 1 min
4. after restarting computer plug power back into modem and wait for all the lights to start blinking
5. after the modem is working plug power back to router and plug in the computer with ethernet cable and make sure you have internet,
6. try to link up with wireless,
If this does not work you will have to setup the router for wireless if it is att wireless you will have to call them to give you the password to set it up.

It is possible .. just get youself an ethernet cable .. connect one end to your router and the other end to the back of the pc ( ethernet port ) .. and u will be connected via the wire.. Open Zonealarm, choose Firewall, Zones.

Add >> IP Range set your IP range eg 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254

This should allow connection between Router and Wireless Laptop/Desktop.

If your wireless PC cannot see the router, check your router setting to see if you are transmitting a SSID
