Question about 3Com NBX® V3000 (3C10600BUS)

1 Answer

We had a power outage last night and I have not been able to successfully restart my 3Com V3000 server. I have powered it down several times, waited several minutes before restarting, but it just shows blinking lights and it never starts successfully.

After you power it up LEAVE IT ALONE for at least 45 minutes. When the NBX loses power abruptly it will do a disk scan upon reboot. The disk scan takes anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minutes (depnding on the size of the database). You can connect to the console and see it doing a disk scan when you boot it back up. It will go through 6 phases and then boot up normally. Each time you pull the plug you risk database corruption (or hard drive failure on an older system).

You can verify the disk scan process by looking at the S1 and S2 lights on the front of the NBX. They will be blinking (alternating back and forth) while the scan is in progress. If this is happening just be patient and DON'T pull the power again until they stop alternating. As I mentioned before, this can easily take up to 45 minutes.

Power interruption and now my plug,n go seems to be frozen. Cannot set time or clear anything. Screen reads 9.80 or something close

I had a similar problem with my Bosch wall oven after a recent power outage-restart-outage-restart cycle that lasted only about thirty seconds altogether. The difference would be in that while I could reset all the things like day, date, time, etc., the oven would arbitrarily go off on its own and make up the day, time, date, year, etc., with no apparent correspondance to reality. Here's what I did: I completely shut down the oven at its outside breaker (you will need to do whatever it takes to remove the power from the 'plug-n-go'). I waited five or ten minutes before turning the power back on and resetting the various items. Two days have passed and there have been no more mind-of-its-own excursions into another time zone. Problem solved, unless/until another power outage cycle comes along. Hope this helps, or at least gives you an idea about where to start.

I have a Panasonic plasma, & we just had a power outage today... every time we have one, it won't power back on. The call center is closed for the night, & I can't remember what they told me to do the last...

First, unplug the TV, wait 30 seconds to 1 minute, then plug back in & try it. This allows the unit to reset.
Be sure you AC outlet breaker has not tripped.
could also be the TV fuse or power supply PCB.
You should be sure to put a good surge protector in line with this TV as these constant surges are going to severely shorten the life of the unit.

I get the message: 3Com Model 3102- Wait for NCP M We have never seen this before and it is after a power outage. Our server is running. What is NCP?

Hello.

NCP stands for Network Call Processor. There is a problem with communication. Since your server is running, reset your router (disconnect power, wait a few minutes, then reconnect) that supports your IP phone.

Hope this helps.

We have a 3Com NBX V3000. The building our office

This was a rather simple fix. When I was speaking about the NBX V3000, I was talking about our 2U NBX Chassis which holds the line card. When our phone system was installed I wasn't shown the 1U NBX V3000 "Brain". I thought everything was contained in the chassis. Long story, short, I restarted the 1U "Brain" and the system came back up with 5 minutes.

The server shutdown approxmatly every day

if the log says that the shutdown was unexpected, then I'd suspect a power outage at that time. If you're using a managed PDU, check to see if that outlet (or the whole pdu) is set to power cycle. If you have more then one power supply, I'd recommend plugging them into different pdu circuits. If you're pluged in to a UPS, suspect that the UPS is cycling and that there's no UPS management service running. If you're plugged into (yikes) the wall, suspect building power.
