Go to control panel, click on network and internet connections
at the bottom of the window click network connections
right-click on local area connection then click properties

in the preview pane select 'internet protocol (TCP/IP)'
click properties

make sure that 'obtain an ip address automatically' and 'obtain a dns server address automatically' are both selected then click OK.

My computer connects to the wireless network but i cant access the internet

If your computer is connected to the Internet by the use of modem, etc. The problem may lie in DNS settings or in ISP provider. You may contact your ISP provider about the problem.

I just did a clean install of Windows XP and installed a wieless compact USB adapter and am connected to our wireless network but can't access the internet. Any idea why?

Most likely your DNS is not being recognized or getting through. You can do a diagnosis using IE8 and see what it comes up with. Also you can reset the works and try again to get the DNS to answer the router. If not call your internet provider and manually install the Primary DNS numbers make sure that the Network is set to auto detect. Thanks for using FixYa! John

Laptop Cannot Find Home Wireless Network

Try logging into the router with your desktop hard-wired and find the 25-digit passcode and use that to log on to the wireless network with the laptop. If not, then check if connection is good by hard-wiring the router to the laptop. Let me know what happens or if you have solved the problem.

I set up my linksys wireless router this morning on my desk top which has high speed or DSL and I like to have it on my laptop also. I need instructions on how to ave it on both computers,

If your laptop has a wireless card built in - or external, you will be able to get the wireless signal.  You need to open your wireless dialog - Start > My Network Places > View Network Places

Dell Dimension DE051:Wireless Internet Problem (Can't Load Sites)

contact Comcast and have them reset your IP address. also have them ping your modem after they reset IP.
Also, see Linksys website for LELA (easylink advisor) to add devices to network. Uses a good bit of memory so don't allow to run automatically at start up.

Cant connect to wireless network set up in my home. will connect for a few seconds and then say that I cant be logged on to the network

Try going to the manufacturers website and find out how to access your router. Then try disabling your hardware firewall. You can also reset your modem and unplug all connections for about 10 secs and then do it again. I had that problem with a linksys router and I would get booted all of the time.

Cannot get online with Wireless G WRT54G router. Can get online by pressing Cisco Systems button but only temporarily.

Do U see the router signal on the wireless network connection search?
Sometimes the linksys systems cd does not want to work on some pc's. try using the control panel - add/remove programs and uninstall all programs for the linksys. Then goto the control panel - system - hardware and uninstall the linksys card. Leave the actual card installed and reboot. After it detects your card use the linksys cd to load only the driver.
In the properties of the wireless connection, let windows manage it.
The above is based upon the factory defaults of the router. Any keys to access the router would have to be used on the pc.

Internet

Yes it's pretty easy, did you get struck by lightning? It could be bad, but I've known a lot of ISP technicians to say you have a bad card, because they don't want to work on their lines. The good thing is they're pretty cheap. Usually around $20. Just look for a PCI Network Interface Card (NIC). I recommend Linksys, I've always had good luck with them. All you do is open the side panel of your pc, and there should be one screw you take out, slide out the old card, then snap in the new card and put the screw back in. When you start the computer it SHOULD detect and download the drivers for the new card. If not, you'll have to run the cd that came with it.
