Hi,

Click on the link below and download the Chipset, Input Device and IDE/EIDE drivers for the Dell laptop and install them. That should get rid of the yellow exclamation marks from Device Manager.

That sounds like your chipset drivers need to be installed. If you go to "www.support.dell.com" and select "Drivers & Donwloads" you can search for your computer's necessary drivers from the original factory configuration that was installed by entering your service tag (serial number).

What is the base system device on my Dell laptop?

A base system device is any hardware device pre-installed on your laptop, such as a CD-rom drive, a USB port, an Ethernet port, video card, etc. These devices all require pre-installed drivers that were supplied by Dell with the factory setup. The most common problem is to have one of these driver files corrupted or deleted by accident. To solve a base system device driver problem, you have to go into Windows Device Manager (Look in Control Panel), and look for devices listed with yellow question marks or other indications that they have a missing driver. You either then go to the Dell support site for your laptop model, or the driver disk you may have gotten with your laptop, and reinstall the needed driver.

Base system decive

when you get a base system device in the other devices category in device manager it usually means that either the chipset drive has not been installed or a lot of the time it's the sd card reader driver.

That means that it can't find the drivers for your system, the cool thing about new versions of windows is that the drivers usually still respond somewhat even if they aren't fully installed.

Go to the website for the computer manufacture, go to the support section and look for "Drivers" after you click that you'll have to put in your computer information and after that you will be able to select from a list of drivers available for your machine. Just be sure that your computer is able to work with Windows 8. Older machines usually do not contain much support with newer OS's.

I hope this helps :)

Dell Inspiron 710m PC Notebook Problem

Go to "Device Manager" and look if any yellow or red alerts are being displayed next to any devices. To access the "Device Manager" go to the 'Control Panel", "Administrative Tools", "Computer Management" and select "Device Manager" located in the left side column.
If there is an alert, double click on that device to determine the problem, i.e.… device not configured, cannot start this device, etc…
It sounds like all your software drivers got blown away or can’t load. If that’s the case, try running diagnostics. Press and hold the <Fn> key while powering the system on. This will initiate a diagnostic routine to check your hardware.
