My Whirlpool Freezer/Refrigerator model# ET19RMXGW02 is not keeping items cold. The ice maker is not working. There is frost in on the back wall of the freezer but objects like ice cream are all soft. Objects in the door (ice packs) are not freezing. The refrigerator does not seem cold. I have turned the freezer and fridge up

Your evaporator coil behind this frost on the wall is iced up and you cant blow cold air through solid ice, remove this panel and defrost the coil, then check the defrost heating element below the coil, the defrost thermostat located on the coil or the defrost timer itself for being defective

All of a sudden, my refrigerator doesn't keep anything cold like it used to but the freezer still works. We have cleaned underneath but it still doesn't keep anything cold. What could be the problem?

Look for signs of frost on the back side. You probably have a defrost problem of it could be a drain problem.
Your ice box cold air originates in the freezer. A fan pushes down the cold air into the fresh food section. If their are too many items in the freezer the air can be blocked to the fresh food section. If the drain stops up sometimes a puddle forms a slab of ice between the freezer and the bottom. I ave an apartment maintenence man's guide to these ice box's for you HERE. It feature 4 differnt styles of whirlpool ice box's in your size.

Our freezer and fridge or not keeping cold enough

This can be caused by the drain hole below freezer coil being blocked by ice. You MUST remove all ice in drain under freezer coil. Use turkey baster to squirt hot water into hole and use hairdryer to defrost. Possible defrost thermostat is defective. Unit never goes into defrost, ice forms on coil and in floor or back of freezer. After defrosting may work OK for a week or two but gradually gets warmer because ice is blocking ports where cool air gets to refrig. May also have water in refrig box. Can also be caused by defective defrost timer.

THE ICE MAKER WILL STOP CYCLING WHEN THE TEMP IN THE FREEZER GETS ABOVE 10 DEGREES. IT HAS A BUILT IN THERMOSTAT THAT TRIPS AT 10 DEGREES.

CHECK THE BACK WALL OF THE FREEZER FOR FROST. IS THERE A FROST BUILDUP ON THE BACK WALL? IF YES,
THERE IS A FAILURE OF THE DEFROST CYCLE.
THREE ITEMS ARE INVOLVED IN THE DEFROST CIRCUIT.
THE CONTROL(TIMER), BI-METAL, AND HEATER. FIND THE CONTROL BEHIND THE TOE PLATE NEAR THE CENTER. THERE IS A KNOB THAT CAN BE TURNED TO ADVANCE THE
TIMER. WHEN IT CLICKS AND SHUTS OFF THE COMPRESSOR AND FAN, IT IS IN DEFROST CYCLE. WAIT FIVE MINUTES AND SEE IF THERE IS ANY SIZZLING OR A RED GLOWING IN THE FREEZER. IF THERE IS, THE TIMER IS BAD. REPLACE IT. IF THERE ISN'T, THE HEATER ASSEMBLY WITH BI-METAL WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED.

If the frost is on the back wall of the freezer then you most likely have a defrost problem or a bad evaporator fan motor.

Refrigerator Not Making Ice, Frost in Freezer and Refrigerator Not Cold

It has a defrost problem.  Most likely cause would be the defrost thermostat which clips onto the evaporator behind the back panel in the freezer.  Next most common would be the defrost timer.  Third would be the defrost heater.  Let me know if you want to try to test these parts.  If so I will need the entire model # from the sticker in the fridge or on older models on a plate at the bottom front below the door.

Is your fan blowing in the freezer? Frost on the back wall of the freezer usually indicates a defrost problem... defrost themostate, heaters, take back panel off and check evap for frost build up and if your fan in working.
