NAD C541 error correction

By Mini Me - usenet poster

Hi,

I have used the NAD C541 CD-Player now for one week. I really like the nice
and relaxed sound, but it has several problems with some self-recorded CD-Rs
and some high-frequently used regular pressed CDs. The player jumbs from
time to time, my other players play theses discs without any problems. Is
this a weakness of the NAD? If the answer is yes, does this mean that the
error correction does not work properly? And isn't it substantial for a good
sound that the error correction doesn't operate too often and if it is
needed that it does work correctly?

Thank you for your answers,
Christian

Hi Christian,

When I was auditioning CD players about a year ago, I came across this
problem with a NAD C540 player (the predecessor to the C541). The
issue was particularly apparent when skipping from one track to
another, when it jumped more frequently than otherwise. The test CDRs
were all clean and played fine on other players.

It may be that this is a common problem with NAD CD players. Hope this
helps.

Dave.

Yes it is. (sorry)

I would say, the error-correction is not the best part of this player.

Maybee, but *this* is not the problem of your player, but
of the Cd.
But if you can hear, the sound is beautyful.
So I decided to go with the NAD an have an ARCAM Diva 72 also.
I prefer the sound of the NAD, but Cds with problems I play with
the Arcam, which is very reliabel.

Compliments from Vienna
Alfred

For what it's worth, I have a 512 that's never given me trouble with
skipping or error correction, regardless of the media.  However, it has
always had a quirk of occaisionally not recognizing the disc at spin-up
(it makes three attempts, and pretends there's no disc if it fails on
the third).  After this, however, it never gives me a problem.
