It can be ascertained, there is a problem in the switch or the motor carbon brush, carbon has been eroded by the rotor rotation. you have to check and replace the carbon or switch.

The vibrating plate stopped vibrating but the motor seems to be working ok. Either the plate is jammed or something broke. What do you think? This sander is probably 30 years old, very heavy duty.

check the bearing in the platen, it is probably seized up. you can go to Milwaukeetool.com and download a breakdown for this tool. Let me know and I will try and help further.

Goes on works about 10 minutes. stop.try to turn

Problem is the motor is going bad. Sometimes the motor can almost cost as much as a new dryer. An excellent little dryer that will last and work ghood for you is Roper, made by whirlpool. Any Lowes store has these. Hope this helps.

Dripping showerhead mirasport 8.5 kw - shower is approx 15 yr old when switched to off continues to dribble then drip for hours after

It is normal for instantaneous electric showers to drip after shutting down. However, yours sounds as if the water stop valve is failing.
You could have this replaced ( or even cleaned out, sometimes they can be affected by calcium build-up on the seal) but realistically it's probably best to consider unit replacement....15 years is an excellent service span for an instantaneous electric shower.
Hope this helps.

Ryobi half-sheet orbital started screeching - any way to lube it?

Take that sander apart and you can oil the roller externally with a good lubricant not a gel like substance but oil that is made for things to move better. Doesnt have to be heat resistant after you have oiled both sides with the belt off. Then turn it on and let it mix. You may have to do it a few times to get it to work well again

Hand sander stops spinning once placed on item to be sanded

This sander has a brake pad that is supposed to stop the rotation when the sander is not actually in use. It sounds like it's malfunctioning.
The only other thing I can think could be a cause of what you describe is an improperly assembled sanding base. Have you changed out the base, and if so, were you sure to properly align the replaced base on the machine before you tightened the allen screw?
If you're not comfortable disassembling a tool that is still under warranty ( I think it's two years for that one), I would recommend finding a Dewalt service center and taking it in for a factory service call.
