Try resetting the printer before anything else.
Solution one: Reset the product
  1. Without turning off the product, disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the product. NOTE: The USB cable connects to the port on the rear of the product. The port is labeled with the USB icon (?javax.portlet.sync=18962720e044f124c04ed0b232a15c01&javax.portlet.tpst=efb5c0793523e51970c8fa22b053ce01_ws_bi&javax.portlet.prp_efb5c0793523e51970c8fa22b053ce01=wsrp-navigationalstate%3ddocid%253demr_na-c00489814-33%257cdoclocale%253den_us&javax.portlet.rst_efb5c0793523e51970c8fa22b053ce01=wsrp-url%3dhttp%253a%252f%252f16.193.225.56%253a50002%252fsp4tssearch%252fimageservlet%253fdocid%253demr_na-c00489814-33%252fc01424575.gif%26wsrp-navigationalstate%3ddocid%253demr_na-c00489814-33%257cdoclocale%253den_us%26wsrp-requiresrewrite%3dfalse&javax.portlet.begcachetok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endcachetok=com.vignette.cachetoken ). Prior to past few days printer worked fine. Now it prints a few postcards then gives a print buffer message on printer screen and from there on it prints gobbledy gook. Now it won't even print a test...

Sounds like you cover all the bases. I just wonder if you reset the unit via the service mode?
resetting the printer should have cleared the memory.

Hold down select and return while powering on machine, hold until self test comes up on display then press go, this will get you into service mode.

Run the memory diagnostics.

My printer won't print. It says wrong cartridge, but it is the same cartridge that has been in there and printed yesterday. The cartridge is full. What is wrong?

Hi,

Follow these steps:-

  • Reset the printer:-

  • On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)

Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.

  • Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.

  • Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.
Reseat the Print head
  • Make sure the printer is powered on.
  • Press the <Open> button (1), and then lift up the scanning unit (2).
The print head holder automatically moves to the center of the machine. 9cee8ec.gif
  • Lift up the locking lever, and then remove the print head. The print head can be removed with the ink tank still inside.
e2fdf81.gif
  • Replace the print head, and then press down on the locking lever.
50aacad.gif
  • Close the scanner unit.
  • When the LCD displays the following, press the <Set> button.
32f1308.gif
The machine will print a vertical line pattern.
  • In column A on the printout, note which box has the most solid image. Note the value next to this box and use the [<] or [>] button on the operation panel to enter it. Then press the <Set> button.

Note: If you have difficulty on Column A when choosing between two patterns, use the larger value number.

  • Repeat step 7 for columns B to F. If you have difficuly choosing between patterns for Columns D, E or F, use the smaller value number.
  • When values for all vertical columns on the printout have been entered, the LCD will display [LAT LINE PATTERN] and a lateral (horizontal) pattern will print.
  • Review the lateral pattern printout, noting which solid box in Column G on the printout has the most solid image.
a6f7324.gif

  • For the G column printed pattern, use the [<] or [>] button to scroll to the value with the most solid box in the column.

Note: If you have difficulty on Column G when choosing between two patterns, use the smaller value number.

  • Press <Set> to select.
  • Repeat steps 11 and 12 for Column H on the printout.
  • When print head alignment is complete, the machine will return to standby mode.

If the problem persists then you will need to take your device for repair, for possible Print head faulty
Thanks for using Fixya.
Good Luck and have a nice day.
