I have exactly the same problem, light effect just went out tonight. Trying to work out if it is the motor or that little tiny cream box fixed to the terminals inside. If I take it out the lights come on. Just about to see if the motor is working, just that box that has gone.

Dimplex dakota heater is working but flame effect is not its led I think not bulbs.

Says you can turn it on and off? Did you knock the switch?

Can I operate the flame effect on the fire without the heat?
All our Optiflame and Opti-myst fires can be operated on a flame-effect only setting, as can the flickering flame effect on our freestanding bar fires.

Is the flame effect expensive to run?
No, to run the flame effect involves powering light bulbs and a small electric motor and in most cases costs no more than a couple of pence an hour. Some of our fires have LED lamps fitted which are even more energy efficient.

Some have bulbs, some have LED.
Example calculations:
Using UK standard average price of electricity of 14p/kWh (source: Energy Saving Trust Feb 2015)
Optiflame LED flame effect only (eg Danesbury) = 0.1p every hour
Optiflame conventional bulb, effect only (eg Cheriton) = 2p every hour
Opti-myst, flame effect only (eg Oakhurst) = 3p every hour
Opti-V single screen = 0.5p every hour
2kW fan heater, on constantly (no thermostat) = 28p every hour

Optiflame lightbulbs for sale. Remove the coals and check for bulbs.

Flame Electric Fireplace Electric Fireplace Heat

Fireplaces have become the heart of the home, a warm place to gather with friends and family. Fireplaces turn any blank wall into a gorgeous focal point. A fireplace fits any decor and is a stylish addition to any room. Electric fireplace logs have improved greatly over the past few years and now days can look so good that they can fool people into believing that they are looking at a real fire, something which is especially true when you have crackling effect of fireplace logs, which aim to imitate the sound of a real fire.

Even though electric fireplaces do not generate flame, most provide the effect of a fire, which ranges from an orange light shined through plastic logs to simulate the appearance of coals burning, to an elaborate flame projection on the doors of some of the free-standing models. If you need a fireplace to heat your home you may want to consider a gas fireplace for better efficiency. If you need a fireplace for more decorative purposes a cheap electric burning unit might better suit your needs. The electric fireplace has experienced a quantum leap from those electric logs with reflective tin foil drums that adorned the hearth while the lava lamps were in vogue. An electric fireplace can add a great deal to a home, in terms of both form and function, and are also very effective at heating up a room.

Electric fireplace heaters simulate the look of a fireplace, but don't actually burn gas or wood like a traditional fireplace. Electric fireplace inserts simply fit into existing fireplaces and provide an artificial fire that creates the warmth and ambiance you want with just a flip of a switch. A modern electric fireplace insert does not require any type of venting system and many units are portable.

Even though these fireplaces do not generate flame, most provide the effect of a fire, which ranges from an orange light shined through plastic logs to simulate the appearance of coals burning, to an elaborate flame projection on the doors of some of the free-standing models. They plug into the wall, and can run on a "flame only" setting, or can be used as a heater, typically with 4,500–5,000 BTU (4,700–5,300 kJ), that can heat a 400 sq ft (37 m2) room. Since there is no real flame or combustion taking place, electric fireplace heaters release no toxic fumes or dangerous gases.

Everyone knows that a fireplace is about more than heat, especially when you're looking at a real fire, when one of the most entrancing things about it is the fact that you can see real flames. Most electric logs use a standard 110 volt power source, and come with various levels of flame of brightness. By choosing a really good set of electric fireplace logs, and particularly those which have a crackling effect and real flames, you can be assured that your fireplace will not be simply a unit in the room to make the room feel warm, but will be something that you enjoy looking at as well.

Electric fireside inserts are also a good option if there are issues with your hearth which make them a hazard with wood burning fires. Electric fireplace log inserts typically include an electric fireplace log set and an ember bed, and inserts are incredibly easy to install. Electric fireplace inserts are safe and clean. Most importantly whether you choose a modern electric fireplace or any other type make sure it will be most cost effective and suitable for its purpose in your home.

Fire was working fine, then flame effect stopped. Heater still works on both settings, but no flame effect. Tried new bulbs, but still no flame effects, any ideas?

If it is not the bulbs, it is often a melted switch or circuit board.

Flame effect electric fire loud clicking noise

You need a new synchronous motor. This is the small motor which turns the flame effect rod. They are notorious for becoming noisy.

I have recently bought a second-hand electric fire which looks exactly like The Adam Ribbon chrome Electric Fire. It has three switches for flame only and then two heat settings. What i don't understand is...

The dial, numbered 1-9, is probably the heater fan speed control. Or it also could be the flame effect control (speeds the flames up or slows them down). But, I suspect its the heater fan speed control. Either way, it works like a rheostat. As far as efficiency is concerned, despite what the manufacturer may say, electric fireplace effect heaters are not that efficient in the long term. Nor, are they that reliable. They do require routine maintenance to increase their longevity.

Hope this answered your questions.

Noisy optiflame motor on dimplex cheriton fire

If you are referring to the motor of the flame effect, these are called synchronous motors (commonly used in microwave turntables. Any syncronous motor should do as a replacement, but check whether you need a 12v model or a 240v model. This information should be found on the label on the back of the old motor.

Motor in dimplex fire/heater not turning

Hello. It could be possible that a piece or some of the foil that gives the flame effect has fallen down on the motor, that creates the heat. This could be causing the noise. I would not think this is an electrics problem.

I would ensure the electric fire is disconnected from any power supply and either open the heater myself or get a electrical specialist to have a look. Then you will see exactly what is happening. A piece of foil may be visible which is catching the motor.

If you decide to tackle the problem yourself write down how to put the heater back together as you take each part out. These parts would be covers etc. It can easily get confusing. That is important.
