Question about Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

Every time my HP Photosmart C3180 is switched on it prints out a print cartridge alignment sheet and unfortunately I have to switch the printer on and off all the time I am using my word processor as the typing alternates with printing the finished sheets. (My processor is Papyrus, german software, but much preferred to Word. If I leave the printer on it grabs control of the mouse so that I can't use it with the word processor). I have at the moment a pile of five unwanted test alignment sheets beside me from my recent hour's work which, with the waste of ink and paper, as well as the time it takes to print these test sheets, is very annoying. I am contacting you because there must be some way to switch this test alignment print-out function off so that it only prints a new alignment sheet when a new cartridge is fitted and not every single time it is switched on. I am using genuine black HP print cartridges, number 338. Hope you can help. Norma Wrangham e-mail address: normawrangham@msn.com

Many thanks. I tried cleaning the ink heads with the printer tool box software and, guess what! It then stopped doing the annoying test sheets before each printing! Maybe the problem was no more than the last cartridge wasn't fully settled in the cradle, though working, and the printer thought it was new each time. If so, the cleaning must have settled it fully in. I have noted your advice in case of trouble in the future, but for now, thanks again - problem solved! Norma.

Glad to rate you, can't find where to do it! Clicking on 'how do we rank' page coloured damonds has no effect. No effect either from clicking on the empty balloons on the query and profile page. Where is it done on the website?

this looks like the answer to your issue.

Step three: Align the new print cartridge

When a new print cartridge is installed, the prints a print
cartridge alignment sheet. This may take a few minutes.
If the print cartridge alignment does not start automatically, complete the following steps:

    1. Make sure the printer is turned on.

    2. Verify that there is a plain paper loaded in the input tray.

    3. After the alignment page is printed, lift the lid of the product.

    4. Place the alignment page face down on the glass. Align the upper right corner of the page in the
right front corner of the glass.

Figure 6: Place the alignment page face down

    5. Close the lid.

    6. Press the
      Start Scan
      button. The
      Power
button light blinks during the alignment process.

      After the
      Power
button light stops blinking, the alignment is complete.

Bought used Photosmart C3180 printer. Need to know how to insertcartridges. Thanks

for this particular printer, there are two slots, one with a green triangle and another with 2 different shapes. The left one is for colour and the right for black ink.
First you want to pull the desired cartridge out by putting a finger on both top and bottom and it should literally slide out (if it doesn't first time lift it up slightly first). Save the cartridge for future refill and the cartridge you want to put in you hold the same way and again from the bottom just literally slide it in. You should be able to click it in once it is all the way - this indicates it is in correctly, the printer should now run a test print

Every time i turn my printer on it goes through what i think is a diagnostic print out. This totally wastes ink and paper. also it no longer shows the enlargre or shrink mode. Oh wait let me guess you...

Here is a NO CHARGE manual on troubleshooting:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00694908.pdf

This is a copy direct from the manual above:

If you installed a new print cartridge, the HP All-in-One prints a print cartridge

alignment sheet.Note

If you have colored paper loaded in the input tray when you align

the print cartridges, the alignment will fail. Load unused plain white paper

into the input tray, and then try the alignment again.

If the alignment fails again, you might have a defective sensor or print

cartridge. Contact HP Support. Go to

www.hp.com/support. If prompted,

choose your country/region, and then click

Contact HP for information on

The HP Photosmart c3180 prints a color test sheet every time I turn it on even if only to scan a document. How do I prevent it from doing this?

1. Turn on the HP all-in-one.
2. Disconnect the USB cable from the all-in-one.
3. Press the sequence of front panel buttons below to initiate the print cartridge alignment process. The button-press sequence must be completed within ten seconds. It might take several tries to complete the sequence within ten seconds.

a. Press and hold Cancel.
b. While holding Cancel, press On.
c. When the Check Paper and Check Print Cartridge lights begin to blink simultaneously, release both buttons.
d. Press Cancel again.
e. Press Copies.
f. Press Paper Type.
g. Press Color Start Copy.
h. The alignment page will begin printing. If the alignment page does not print, repeat the button-press sequence in this step.

4. Once the alignment page is printed, place the page face down on the scanner glass and press Scan. The alignment is complete when the On light stops blinking. 5. Reconnect the USB cable.
