Question about Panasonic PT-53WX54 53" Rear Projection HDTV

PT-53WX54 53 in. Rear Projection HDTV Television

I have this television and I am having a problem with the picture. The picture slants downward and to the right. You responded to someone else's post about how to correct this problem, however I was wondering if you could describe to me exactly how to fix the problem.

Thanks!

    Hello Shuttle83,

First off, thanks for your help.  If this is a simple fix hopefully I can avoid paying $100 just to have someone diagnose the problem.  I tried to attach a picture to this, but it is saying the image is too big.  Do you have an email address I could send it to?  Again, I really appreciate your help.

Hello jwade,

This looks like it could be a problem in the Convergence/Deflection section. If possible could you send me pictures of the actual problem. Because they will let me know if this is a convergence or a deflection issue. The problem is these two sections are dependent on each other, but follow certain troubleshooting methodologies. Again post or send me pictures of the actual screen, and from that I should be able to help you.

Thank you,

Shuttle83

    Hello jwade,

Just as I suspected you have a deflection problem causing a slight convergence problem. What has happened; is your deflection circuit has caused your deflection coils to shift the picture off horizontal axis. This in older single tube TVs would have been a manual adjustment, but since these projection TVs have three tubes the adjustment is usually controlled via internal diagnostics.

Question is have you tried using the dianostics available in your menu? If you have not I would suggest trying that first. If you have then you will have to do a manual adjustment by setting the voltages on the deflection coils. At this point I should tell you that it would be best to get this taken care of by a professional, because of work involved and the chance of permanent damage. It takes time to perform these types of adjustments, and the equipment needed is expensive. So here are the basic instructions on how to adjust deflection using the manual method without using the internal diagnostics (I am giving you these instructions because the on-board dianostics and adjustments should be included in your owners and or service manual):

    1) connect a Universal Video Analyzer Signal generator to your tuner.

    2) adjust it per the instructions to inject a signal on channel 2

    3) set the pattern control to crosshatch

    4) using a mirror make sure you can see the full screen from behind the television

    5) find the manual deflection adjustment controls or use the controls actuated from the remote control (see the service manual for these settings)

    6) adjust the settings of the vertical and the horizontal per the service manual instructions

    7) after the set is adjusted use the remote control to lock (save) the settings.

This should get rid of the combination of the deflection/convergence issue

Now again I must advise that you get this done by a professional, because I have been doing this for close to 25 years and I never get it right the first time, and to be honest, if anyone says they can I would doubt them.

I know there is not much to solving your problem but it is just tedious.

    I hope this helps

You should have received a message on the screen about replacing the lamp. Also, the LAMP led on the front should be lit in red.
You can replace the lamp assembly easily for about $150 - $250.
Don't try to replace the bulb only.
A new Panasonic Plasma TV will cost about $1000 and good for another 5 to 6 years.

I once had a rear projection TV and was told by the repairman that each of the 3 flourescent lamps run about $200.00 to replace.
Needless to say I did not get it fixed

Check the vertial output IC. either for defective solder or defective IC. This model has a feature if the vertical output IC fails for any reason the picture tubes blank out as a safety issue.Thereby giving no picture but audio still functions.
