How fresh is the cmos battery? Might as well replace it with a new one. Thats about 75 cents for a good one. It should be a CR3022 but the battery you have should be marked. Just take it with you to almost any battery shop or place that sells watches or electronics. When you get the battery but before you buy check the date stamped on the package. get as fresh as you can.

If taking out the battery allows it to boot then it sounds like your cmos may be corrupted which is usually caused by a bad battery. If it isn't saving the settings or you notice that it keeps looking for new hardware when starting then its likely the cause. This is much more common on desktops but some laptop models run hot enough to cook the backup battery within a year or so.

HP Pavillion dv6700 - won't power up

Hello. The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty. If you move/wiggle the hp pavilion dv6700 power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem. The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable. If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.Hope this helps.

My HP dv6700 sometimes turns on and off by itself

What you're describing sounds like a hardware problem, not a software one, if the resetting occurs long before Windows loads.

As it's a notebook, my first suggestion would be to
make sure there's nothing wrong with the power point you're running it from, or the power cable. If you plug a desklamp into the same circuit (old-style incandescent globe, not fluoro) does it flicker? Is the power cable firmly plugged in? Has it been chewed by a pet?

Next run it without the battery and see if it still plays up. If it does still misbehave, you have a problem in the power adaptor or the internal circuitry of the notebook. If it works without the battery, the battery is on the way out and should be replaced.

HP Pavillion DV6700 is shittung down

This could be numerous things. It could be an over heating problem, a virus, a power supply failing or something wrong in the power adapter on the motherboard where the power plug plugs into the laptop. If you plug in the laptop and see the battery charge light come on then the problem is most likely an overheating problem or a virus. If the battery charge light comes on then I would recommend taking it to a reputable repair facility to have them diagnose the problem.

HP Pavillion dv6700 - black screen

Do the following without the battery inserted.

Let the computer sit with no battery for 24 hours. Do not put the battery in at all. Try using your original memory stick ONLY, with no hard drive and see if it will POST. If it does, insert the hard drive and try again. Could be the new memory...

Another thing you can try is reseating the processor. Turn the ZIF screw, take the processor out (WATCH THE PINS!!) and put back in GENTLY. Leave the memory in the computer, hard drive removed, try to power on.

These models have been known for bad motherboards. Contact HP and arrange to send it in. If you do enough digging on HPs website, you'll find the service advisory.

Did you remove all other power supplies from the computer, like the battery and AC adaptor. try this again, only leave the CMOS Battery out for 2-3 Minutes, with no other power supplies attached.
