Question about Boating

Open Question

I would like an Electrical diagram for a 1975 Evinrude 135 HP power pilot. The gray wire has come off inside the power pilot and I don't see where it goes. There is also a white wire that is not connected but I think it was not connected before. The starter will go when I jump it with a wire but will not work when I turn the key to start it.

SOURCE: I have 1975 Evinrude 135 hp I cant get it to start

Have some turn the engine over and ground each spark plugwire to see if they spark. Good plugs won't matter without juice.

SOURCE: 1981 evinrude 115HP outboard - The wire connecting

1) I cleaned the terminal ends and whether or not I mixed the wires up again, I really dont know but I managed to get the motor started.
2) I took the starter motor apart and cleaned the plates which make contact with the brushes, this made quite a difference to the working of the starter motor.

SOURCE: hi have a 1984 evinrude 35 hp model no E35RLCRR that wont start

But if things are not hooked up right. My Electrical rule #6. If the problem does not make sense, check and clean all grounds. Also "won't start" is too vague. Will not crank or cranks but will not fire are two different directions. As far as the choke butterfly closing, it sounds like you have the choke wire on the start post. Review your connections with factory diagram.

cat convertors still on truck?
O2 sensors still install in pipes? (have they ever been replaced)
Air intake sensor still installed and is not damaged?
Test pressure output of fuel pump.
Replace fuel filter if not already done.

evinrude 1978 -1979 have a capacity discharge ignition unit as the control for the spark system
it runs wires to an ignition coil
so I would be suspicious of that unit
check all connections for corrosion and bad connections
I typed in electrical schematics for 1978 evinrude out board engine and found a site which in the list of schematics has 55hp 1977-1978
press on that and you get a schematics of the wiring diagram evinrude 1978-1979 55hp
now I am aware that you state that yours is 35 hp but if it has 2 cylinders then it is a fair bet that the wiring diagram will be the same
any way there are plenty of other sites that may be of benefit

1975 75 hp evinrude water in lower unit

You could take off the lower unit and leave the boat home. All they need is the bottom. The propshaft seal can be cut from fishing line. There should be another seal on the shift assembly and a third on the powershaft. Some you could do, but the shop can pressure test before and replace only what you need. Then pressure test after the repair to verify it seals.
