Sounds ilke a ai leak the manifold block gasket may be leaking or a crack in the carb to barrel insulator- or it has a torn / perished intake boot or the impulse line is perished , could even be a loose barrel and the base gasket is leaking - or leaking crankcase seals

you have ruled out secondary compression and spark and blocked muffler

only proper way to know is to remove muffler and carb, block off both
inlet and exhaust with rubber gasket and a metal plate - make sure the inlet metal plate has a access hole for you to pressurise the c/case
remove clutch starter assy and flywheel
set to psiton to tdc and pressurise the c/case to 7 psi
brush around seals and gaskets with soapy water and see where bubbles are comming from that will be your leak it may be quite substanicial - check main seals, c/case joints, manifold block carb end and cylinder end and of course the manifold block itself

2 strokes need a air tight c/case to operate to fuel pump in the carb and to pump mixture from the crankcase to the cylinder

if sucking air instead of fuel they can be really hard to start, stall alot , have no power , will not idle , and seem to overspeed and get very hot
not to mention can damage tp piston and cylinder

have a look or let your local shop take a look for you

Cutting out

Hi Thomas only thing I can think of is that its not getting enough air is it the right filter as it may be not be allowing enough air through. As you probably know if you don't get the right amount of fuel & air it won't run right. Hope it helps cheers Paul

Ski-doo won't stay running or idle

sounds like it could be the air to fuel ratio. if it only want to run with the choke on. I would say to make sure all your nuts and bolts are tight and that you check the gaskets in between the carb and the motor. another thing you could do is get a can of starting fluid and spray it around the carb while the motor is running (do not spray it in the carb)if the idle changes or if it dies you need to replace gaskets.

Starting mac 3227 trimmer

As you have done most things, i would suggest you have a massive air leak, either through the cylinder or crankcase gasket, or through the crank seal, i think its time to pull the whole engine down and replace these items.

Briggs and straton 205412-0187e1 runs on full choke only rebuilt carburetor due to surging now it only runs on full choke

This engine came with 2 different carbs. Walbro and Nikki. The Nikki carb has a very fussy float plate! I fight them often! Usually there is a problem with the odd gasket that lifts the flat plastic plate and causes a very low fuel float level in the carb so the only way it stay running is to have the choke on. The main fuel jet on both carbs is up inside the threaded area of the bowl nut. When the main fuel jet clogs...and it only takes a speck of something you also get the symptom of having to use the choke to keep it running.

Main fuel jet is item 117 Nikki or Screwed into item 142 Walbro of the of the above link depending on which carb you have.
The plate I am talking about on the Nikki carb is item 135. The fussy gasket is 137A.

THE threaded area is where all the main fuel supply is drawn from the float bowl. All that must be free of obstructions. Until this is clear and orifices / jets are not obstructed; your going to be running on choke....

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Sounds like you have a carb will need too pull carb off and clean it.before you do that check air cleaner and make sure it is not plugged up.then pull carb off and clean it and rebuild it or replace it with a new one.

I have a electric generator with a 5 horse briggs engine it was hard to start and ran with full choke. I ordered a rebuilt kit # 495606 and installed. The only way the engine will run , is to pour gas...

it has a blocked fule line and maybe blocked jets in the carb first clean all the fule lines from the tank down check the filter in the tank as well they do get rust in them, if fule is reaching the carb strip carb and clean all jets,, dont go poking wire into the jets it could distroy them check that the flote is free and lifting then clean the air filter and try starting it up,,,it should run ok then

Ryobi 720r weedeater. Starts, stalls, won't start.

When you rebuilt the carb did you remove and replace the welch plugs. If you did not, then that is probably where your problem is. Debris, varnish and corrosion can build up under the welch plugs and the unit will not pass fuel.

Echo cs8000

The solution to the fuel starvation problem with the Echo 8000 is based on the metering diaphragm. In late 2007, Walbro sold off a huge amount of carb kits which were not ethanol compliant. These kits were purchased by resellers like Stens. Now that many states have ethanol blended gasoline, the metering diaphragm dissolves and hardens in the presence of the added ethanol. You will need the walbro carb kit with a 'new' metering diaphragm that is not sensitive to alcohol or mtbe which is the summer fuel additive also in alot of areas. Each kit comes with a date on the package, use Walbro K22-HDA manufactured after 06-2008. I run these saws that is how I know.
