Model numbers for Sears / Whirlpool machines usually start with the numbers 110.

Most top load washers will have the full model number visible when you lift the lid and look toward the back of the machine.

The timer is what appears to be failed in this problem.

Typically - units are only supported for 10 years - but head over to RepairClinic.com and enter your full model number. If the part is available - it is very easy to change.

I can look for a replacement timer for you if you want - simply reply with your exact model number and I will respond with a direct link... as well as replacement instructions.

Thanks!

Open up the washer, grab the metal basket and lift it up and down. If there is any play in it then buy a new washer. Replacing that spindle and bearing is not cheap. Spindle can only be purchased by also buying a new basket and that can cost $500.00 or more just in parts.
If this is what the inside drum does at all, then it is toast. Washer Spin Basket Part Number 131618500 Sears PartsDirect
This is the basket for your washer and it is $314
And if you decide to go that route then you will need the outer rear tub because the bearing is part of that tub and it is $246 Washer Outer Rear Tub Part Number 131462800 Sears PartsDirect You also have to ask yourself that since it is 9 years old, If I replace the tub and drum what else will go out? The motor? It's $120. What about the drain and re circulation pumps? Well it's $82. It will be cheaper on you to bite the bullet and purchase a new unit.

10 year old Kenmore Ultra is leaking early in the washing cycle. Wondering if this is worth fixing or need to bite the wallet and buying a new one. I am worried about affecting the new cabinets even...

At 10 years old I wouldn't put much if any money into it. Do check the water connections as it may be something simple that just needs to be tightened or a washer replacement. Replacing the valve is a simple and inexpensive fix but don't bother going further than that. If you can't DIY it's not worth spending the money for a service call. Kenmore has a wide range of units at various price levels all built by the major players. I have an 8 year old Kitchenaide (made by Whirlpool) that is very quiet and still runs like new. A new unit will wash better and probably use less energy. If you buy an "EnergyStar" rated model you may qualify for a rebate as well.

F35 and Suds error on Kenmore Elite HE5t

I also got the SUDS error followed by F35 many times. I replaced the analog water level switch, Wirlpool part number W10156252, and the problem went away. The part is located against the back right corner of the top of the washer after removing the top cover. The part cost $62.99 + $12.95 express shipping from ApplianceZone.net. I have the Kenmore HE3t Steam Washer, model number 110.46752 700 front loader. I was able to run about 6 loads of laundry by unplugging the washer, waiting about 5 minutes, the re-plugging and re-starting the washer. Thereafter, the problem became permanent. I always used HE detergent. The washer was purchased new in December 2007, and the I made the repair in September 2009. I spent about $1300 for the Kenmore H3t Steam Washer, and I am disappointed that it required repair after less than 2 years. My mothers old Maytag washer lasted more than 15 years, and was not susceptible to soap SUDS.

Previous post on a Kenmore washer

How old is the washer ?

Here is an interesting report I just read!!!!!!!!!!

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old washer

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your washer,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your washer is under warranty or less than four years old ,
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that washers under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your washer is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new washer.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive washer
eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of washers you replace are likely to end up in a landfill.

Would like to know how old a used washer is

The model number determines the manufacturer. Your washer is made by Whirlpool. I need the SERIAL number to determine the age, however.

Kenmore 417.44082400 Front Load Washer

2005 why would you do that, you could have bought a new washer with newer technology and for the money and time that went into that,a normal washer lasts from 10 to 13 years now,i wouldn't put another nickle into that and i wouldn't buy another frigidaire either,i'm surprised you didn't have any problems with the computer board, these washers are known for that, usually the spider gear goes from overloading and using to much he soap, you should only be using two tablespoons of he soap that's it,but i've never heard of the springs breaking the tub, either it was installed wrong or something could be wrong with the shocks or you're overloading the washer but that's strange,BUY A NEW WASHER,what happens if the motor goes next or the computer board,it's old, you'll never get a washer like the old maytags or whirlpool top loaders that would last for 30 years,if you get over 10 years out of your washer you're ahead of the game

I need help also.

The model number should be located around the tub opening somewhere. The part you are describing sounds like the lid strike and/or lid switch. If you can doublecheck and provide me with a model number, I can locate the parts for you. If you wish to repair this yourself I have step-by-step instructions at the following link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

The lid switch usually costs about $25, while the lid strike costs about $10. A repair of about $35 may change your mind about buying a new one. I hope this helps you. Post back if you have further questions, or need more assistance.
