You probably have the lens cap on. Remove the cap from the lens and see if you are able to shoot.

JVC COMPACT VHS CAMCORDER MODEL NO. GR-SXM250U

I cant find a solution but causes may be :
1. Did you remove the LENSE CAP ?
2. PRobably there is a small switch that tells the camera that LENSE CAP is on or something dunno

About that recording problem
1. LCD Broken?
2. Other technical issues ...

Im not proffesional or anything :P Wish you luck with better people at this D: .

JVC GR-X5e camcorder, lens cap message. Does not show a picture.

It shows all menus, numbers and graphics on LCD, but seems like there's no picture coming through the lens. In both modes, video and still. It seems like it can not see anything as if the lens cap was on all the time.

Could this be a problem with sensor.. CCDs? Lens? Something else?

Lens cap?

Try removing the battery, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. That may reset the lens cap sensor.
