Hi and welcome to Fixya I am Kelly. This symptom is typical of fuel starvation. It can be caused by

1. A dirty fuel filter (if installed)
2. Debris in the bottom of the fuel tank
3. Fuel shut off selector not all the way on or debris in pet-c^ock bowl. This is located on the bottom of the fuel tank.
4. Float needle assy not allowing proper fuel flow in the float bowl
5. The fuel supply line or the plastic "Y" just before the carb is cracked and air is being introduced into the system as the fuel hose swells from heat.

I really think you have a fuel supply issue. A break down can be found here of your carb:
http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/Generator/0/EU3000IS%20A%20GENERATOR,%20JPN,%20VIN%23%20EZGF-1000001%20TO%20EZGF-1079999/CARBURETOR/parts.html

Fuel tank cap removed

You should be able to remove the angled drain screw (Item 6 above link) in the bottom of the float bowl and have fuel flow freely out of the hole. (I use spray paint can cap / lid to catch the fuel. If you can not fill the spray paint cap to the inner circle of the cap in one continuous attempt there is a problem with fuel supply ( 1 - 5 above )

If you can avoid it DO NOT remove the carb. Getting all the linkages correct during reinstallation is tedious even for seasoned techs on this generator. You can safely remove the float bowl and check for debris / give the jets a blast of carb cleaner. If you do use carb cleaner also direct a shot into the fuel hose connection (hose removed) on the side of the carb with the bowl off. The jet is in the very bottom of the center post.

PLEASE do a leak test before starting the engine with the fuel selector on. (Safety issue)

Make sure you replace the fuel tank cap before starting the generator.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

If your generator has been in service there is a good chance that there is water in the float bowl. On the side of the sloat bowl there is a plug that is at roughly a 45 deg angle. It will be item 6 of this link:

(Use the fuel tank supply fuel shut off to control fuel flow on / off as required)

    http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/...

Using a catch basin such as a spray paint can lid, remove the plug (Item 6 above link) and drain out the moisture. You will know for sure if you have water in the float bowl as you will see it in the fuel. If water has been present for sometime it will have a rust color to it. If you see the rust color the float bowl will have to be removed by removing the bottom nut (Item 7 of above link) and the rust in the float bowl will have to be physically removed / cleaned out. There is an O'ring on the bottom of the carb body that you should also wipe clean so that when you reinstall the float bowl that is seal properly.

Additionally most of these smaller Honda generators have the float needle physically attached to the float itself. Pulling the hinge pin out will remove the float and the float needle. Depending on the float assy used (2 types) the float needle may not be able to be separated from the float assy. The float needle rubber tip should be soft to the touch and the rubber surface should be clean. Using carb cleaner on the float needle and in the needle seating area is recommended. You do NOT have to remove the carb. Just spray it into the hole to remove any debris. When you reinstall the float guide the float needle into the hole, let the opposite side of the float drop down at an angle so you can reinstall the hinge pin. If you use cab cleaner make sure to spray into the very bottom of the center post to clean out the fuel orifice hole. Then reinstall the float bowl.

Make sure the fuel is on, wait 30 seconds for the fuel bowl to re-fill and then start the unit. Check for residual fuel leaks before returning the generator to normal service.

    Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Why can't i run my a/c with honda 3000is generator

This generator will run an a/c unit up to 13500 btus and is good for 2800 watts. This is a small generator, the nameplate rating numbers need to jive before overloading the energy supply.

Honda generator starts, runs, then stalls and backfires

Honda makes quite good gasoline motors. I doubt it is a valve timing issue but it might be a burned valve or a valve adjustment issue. What does after a while mean? A couple of minutes or 4 hours? Is it running for just a short while and then stops or it runs well for a long time and then stops?

1984 models have the PGs at the back of the engine. The engine has to come out to get at them, or I think you can pull the swingarm instead.
From 1985 the PGs are under the timing belt covers. Still not the easiest to get at.

Recheck for spark when it stalls. If you have lost spark I would say a heat damaged coil.

You should also drain and inspect the carb bowl. You may have low fuel flow which limits full throttle operation to 30 minutes or less. When it dies you are just refilling the bowl for the next run.

Good luck and be careful!

I have a 3000is not starting. Has gas spark oil.

Use fresh gas! Dont just pour some on top of the old...Change it out.

Drain the carb bowl (Honda carbs have a drain screw slightly off-center of the bowl bottom).

The Honda EU3000is uses a vaccuum-operated fuel pump and old gas will ruin it also.

Take the fuel supply line off the carb inlet, direct it in a container and spin the engine over. It should pump a stream that is FULL LINE DIAMETER.

If still no start, take it to an AUTHORIZED Honda Power Equipment Dealership.
Find one here.

Hope this helps.

Battery in a honda 3000is

The battery is behind one of the end plastic casing pieces. You have to remove the center plastic panel, then remove the bolts holding the handle in place, and then remove the small, lower metal panel. I don't remember if it is on the side where the exhaust opening is or not, I believe it is on that same side.
