I have a 3 prong wall mount outlet for my dyer and want to put in a 4 prong. how do I do it?

Veronica,
If you are talking about the outlet you plug your dryer into, that would require an certified electrician to make the change since that is covered by electrical codes. If you are talking about changing the pigtail on the dryer, you could do that yourself. Just remember to take the brass strip off that goes from the middle of power cord block to the ground. You have to separate the neutral from the ground in a four wire situation. Hope this helps!

put the white in the middle, red on one side black on the other doesn't matter what side or just copy the old cord, now you need to ground it with the green wire, take off a screw on the back of the dryer near the other three and attach the green ground wire to it and screw it back in,the green wire just has to touch the metal frame to ground it

Burnt smell on dryer

Hello fyffeta,
3 or 4 prong power should have no bearing on the dryer performance..3 prong provides 2 power feed lines and a neutral versus a 4 prong system that provides the same two power feeds, a neutral and a ground.. so performance wise.. you should not expect any. The fact that it sounds louder is subjective and may be a function of the move. whereby something inside the dryer shifted a little when transporting it.. or the accoustics of the new room. If you smell something burning then I would check the exaust duct system for any material and/or restrictions.. It is possible that by moving your dryer..some lint, fibers from clothes or even human hair may have been dislodged and found there way into the blower/heater region and are burning off.. With the plug disconnected..Make sure your power cable terminations at the dryer are all snug. a loose connection there is dangerous and is resistive ( which means it will get hot) and in some cases.. could cause a fire so check that carefully..
In all probability..you may just have some lint or something that shifted during the move and is burning away...
Good Luck

I just purchased a new home and the pigtail of my Amana dryer is different than the electrical outlet and the dryer does not have a schematic to install a new 4 wire pigtail. Is there an adapter to change...

There are no adapters. But a dryer will accept a 3 prong or 4 prong cord. The extra green wire just needs to be connected to any screw on the dryer casing. Some newer dryers have a screw there for it..or u can just use the closest screw avalable......usually the screw for the cover works good.
