Question about Samsung HP-R4252 42 in. Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

Plasma-No picture This problem seems to be fairly common. Watching TV, everything working great when suddenly - no picture. There were no popping sounds...nothing. The picture just left. I still have sound, though I cannot change channels. Volume control works, but I cannot see the volume bar. The screen is totally black...looks as if the TV is turned off, but the sound is on. We have a repairman coming next week, but I'm wondering if, in your opinion and experience, this will be an expensive repair and is it likely to happen again...or another problem present itself. When is it time to dump the set and get another? This set is just over 2 years old, but is on nearly 24/7. Thanks for your help

Hello, Last night my Samsung plasma TV made a fairly loud popping sound while I was watching it and then the power went off. When I turned back it on, no picture but sound was o.k.

Yes the caps on theower supply, but you can check power supply board by smell an look for burnt parts it is common. May need more than one board if they are cheap get both.

Glad you got it fixed and this is a common issue in everything from TV sets to desktop computers--cheap caps dry out and fail.

I have a maxent 42 inch tv for the last 2-3 weeks the picture keeps blinking intermitentley last night while watching it we heard a pop and we have sound but no picture any answers

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

probably the pop was a fuse blowing inside that only controls the lamp should be an easy fix but open the tv at your own risk

One of the SUS panels will be defect. On these panels you will find several fuses, the panel with the broken fuse must be replaced.
Sus panels are the panels with the big cooling blocks.

I have a Philips Plasma tv 42pf5321d/37 with sound but no picture

Thats the great sound of Exploding capacitors on either the power supply board. or another one in there. Now the set is in fault protection. It tried to warn you with the RED blinking LED that there was something amiss by shutting itself down. When you unplugged you reset the error and allowed it to do it again.

Best Regards and Smper Fi
