Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

Tray no longer opens and closes. I have to do it manually. It doesn't acknowledge discs at all, either. I have a new kinect ready console.

Yes this is the sensors on the back of the drive overheating to fix it you need to stop the heat build up on the back of the console.

You can use a good repair guide or send it in.

The " SENSORS" ?? what sensors , do you mean the chips on the drives P.C. board?
And heat build up is normal and does not cause the laser or worm gear motors to fail .
so could you please explain this repeated comment that has nothing to do with the drive
    failing.

You have two unrelated problems .
First the eject motor is weak and staling out before
it can break the magnetic seal releasing the carage and
allowing the tray to open . If you give it a good hard slap over the
drive 1 sec after pressing eject button the tray should open.

Second is a weak or dead laser unable to read games.

My recommendations are to find out what make /model drive
you have .Google it. Then buy a new drive 40.00 50.00 or so.
and swap your old drives P.C board to the new drive
this will get you up and running again.

here's the solution that may work for you

  1. Eject the disc tray and remove any disc from the console.
  2. Important: Do not close the disc tray. Leave it open.
  3. With the disc tray open, remove the power cord from the back of the console.
  4. Gently push the disc tray about half-way back into the console.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the console.
  6. Push the power button on the console. The tray should close the rest of the way, then the console should restart and display the Xbox Dashboard.
  7. Important Do not use the controller or the disc eject button to turn on the console.
  8. Try updating your console software again.
What this does is put the DVD drive into Mode-B, which is an alternate operating state that allows the drive's physical memory banks to be flashed with new firmware. Because the latest XBL update involves flashing the drive with new firmware, you may need to physically put the drive in Mode-B. The latest update flashes the drive to make it compatible with Microsoft's new high-capacity disc format, XGD3, which will be used sometime in the future.

Ever since i got the Kinect for my Xbox 360, it has only been able to read certain game discs. The rest of the games it will say Open Tray when the disc is in. Why is this happening and how can it get...

It will only accept Kinect games, not any old Xbox games, the games for the old console will not work
Or, the disc might be dirty, try cleaning it by breathing on it and then rubbing your sleeve against it
Or, you might be putting the disc in the wrong way round, try putting it in flipped over.

You're welcome!

Tray won't close

Use the following steps to close the disc tray on an original Xbox 360 console.
Step 1: Remove the disc from the tray Step 2: Make sure the faceplate is on correctly
The faceplate is the plastic piece on the front of your console.
  • Press firmly around the edges of your faceplate to snap it into place (make sure it is flush with the rest of the console). If the faceplate is not on correctly, the disc tray won't close.
  • If you find that the faceplate is the problem, please contact Xbox Support to order a replacement faceplate.
If this does not resolve your issue, please try step 3. Step 3: Press the eject buttonTry closing the disc tray by pressing the eject button. If the disc tray successfully closes, open the tray and insert a disc. Now try opening and closing the tray with a disc in the tray.
Note Make sure that the disc isn't sticky and doesn't have any labels that could prevent the tray from closing.
If your disc drive still will not close, please try step 4. Step 4: Move the disc drive tray
  1. Gently move the tray up and down, and then from side to side.
  2. Press the eject button on your Xbox 360 console. If your disc drive still will not close, you need to have your console repaired.
  3. Step 5: Request a repair If the disc tray still won't close properly, your Xbox 360 console needs to be repaired.

I bought a new xbox with 250gb, when i turned it on it says please insert disc that came with device but it didn't come with a disc, I never heard of an xbox coming with a instalation disc, help PLEASE!

If you have a Kinect Sensor connected to the Xbox 360 S, turn off the console first and remove the Kinect Sensor. Then, restart the console and go through the initial set up. After the set up is complete, turn off the console and reconnect the Kinect Sensor. Restart the console and you will be prompted to insert the game disc that came with the device, which is Kinect Adventures. Insert the disc and it will update the console then go through the Kinect set up. Problem solved.
