Question about Weather King 10AJA4201AH Air Conditioner

1 Answer

We have our air conditioner set at 75 degrees in our house, however it only stays that way in the morning and after midnight. I know that it is very hot where we live, but this is the first year that we have had it get up to 81 degrees in our house. I could understand, if it went up a couple of degrees, but we can't see to get it to stay cool.

First, check your air filters!!! Then check your indoor and outdoor coils and clean them if necessary. There is a cleaner you can get for the indoor coil that you do not have to rinse off. For the outdoor coil, the cleaner will have to be rinsed. It's best to rinse it from the inside outwards. If none of this helps then you may need to get your refrigerant charge checked. Another thing to keep in mind is that air conditioning units have a design temperature of 90F. When ever the temperature gets over that you may feel a little uncomfortable.

I have never used central ac before - how do I set it? If it is on 75 will that cool the house? If I want it cooler, do I put it lower? like 65?

As to your question 'will 75 cool the house?' The answer is 'yes' - if the outside temperature is low enough. Typically speaking you can expect your central AC to cool a properly insulated house to a down to a temperature of about 20-25 degrees lower than the outside temperature. For example - if the outside temp is 95 degrees. You could expect to get your house down to 70-75 degrees. If the outside temp is 110 degrees then you could only expect to get the house to 85 or 90 degrees.

So .. as you can see - your 'inside' temp will be directly affected by the 'outside' temperature.

As to the operation of central air; it is very simple.

I would suggest that you not pay 'too much attention' to what you have the thermostat set on. A comfortable temperature - is a personal thing - so - I would set it somewhere - say 72 and see how I (and others in the house) was handling that setting.

If you want it 'cooler' just 'notch' it down a degree or two - if you need it a little warmer - turn it up a degree or two. Do this "fine adjusting" till you have the temperature setting you are comfortable with.

Usually the more you can leave your thermostat alone the better off you will be from a comfort position and an electrical useage standpoint. Obviously, the higher you have your thermostat set the 'less' it will cost you on your electric bill.

How high you set the temperature is a balance you have to come to based on how comfortable you want to be - matched with how much you want to hold down the electric bill.

hope this helps

My ge Model # ASM10AKS a/c intermittently seems to be blowing smoke condensation or gas into through the house vents. I looked through the problems and solutions and did not find this problem. What is it?

Try setting the ac to a higher temp setting. Idealy above 70 degrees. I set mine a 75. If it does that at higher temp setting then maybe it is caused by the ambient condition. For example in the morning because the air is cold but humidity is high. Check if the compressor cuts off when it reaches cut off temp. Also check to see if ice is building up on the evaporator.

My air conditioner will kick on but will stay on and not

The thermostat is not functional, therefore its not cutting off the compressor once the room air gets cooled to the temp setting of the thermostat, also the refrigerant gas may have leaked out some but not the entire refrigerant gas(freon, CF4, etc.), keeping the compressor running contentiously to come down to the set temp..............sodeep

Our thermostat is set at hold with the fan on auto. The house and cool temp is set at 75 degrees, yet the fan will stay on CONTINUOUSLY unless I manually take down the temperature OR the outside temp falls...

it is ok to run your fan continously. constant air filtering as long as it pauses before a/c cycles on. will not use any more electricity than a toaster. is there a fan programing feature on t-stat. if so you will need to turn programing to fan off

sounds like you could be low on charge,If you set you thermostat @ 78 degrees it should stay within 2 degrees of that and not have more then a 6-8 min cycle every 20 min.

Air conditioning unit not cooling

the problem sounds like a defective capacitor its located on the condensing unit outside, also a contactor that is used can be defective also.
