Computer was working fine. Turned it off and the next I went to use it the screen will not come on. I understand that there is a certain key that you press to get it back on but I don't know which one it is? Can you help or suggest something?

When you press the ON button, do any lamps on the front of computer light up? Do you hear any fans start to spin?
Do you feel any air being blown out the back (source is the fan inside the power-supply) ?

If not, your computer's power-supply has failed.
Take your computer to a computer-store, and get them to sell you a replacement. Probably less than $50.
Hint: the smaller store that you take it to, the more-likely that the sale of the power-supply will _include_ "installation" of the new power-supply.

Hi, i have a Sony vaio and it was working fine until I shut it down overnight, the next morning I tried to turn it on which started out fine but as soon as the windows emblem started loading, it didn't...

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
or
During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer
Also you might try
Turn Off the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10 key,ie: Alt+F10, it will open the recovery console ,select full factory restore and follow on screen instruction. (Note:this will erase all datas on the computer)
hope this helps

I just went though airport security, but now my screen is too dark to work with. I have tried taking out the batterie, and I have restarted my computer a few times. It was working fine this morning.

Airport security probably turned off your screen's backlight. On my Acer Aspire One Netbook it is turned on/off by pressing Fn key and while holding it, pressing F6.

The OS-loading screen is a stong indicator that thee is nothing wrog with your hardware, but it is a driver issue. You need to press F8 as your computer starts up and enter SAFE-MODE.
Windows 7
Using the F8 Method:
  1. Restart your computer.
  2. When the computer starts you will see your computer's hardware being listed. When you see this information start to gently tap the F8 key on your keyboard repeatedly until you are presented with the Windows 7 Advanced Boot Options screen as shown in the image below.

Figure 11. Windows 7 Advanced Boot Options screen
  3. Using the arrow keys, select the Safe Mode option you want.
  4. Then press the enter key on your keyboard to boot into Windows 7 Safe Mode.
  5. When Windows starts you will be at a typical logon screen. Logon to your computer and Windows 7 will enter Safe mode.
  6. Do whatever tasks you require, and when you are done, reboot to go back into normal mode.
In safe-mode remove & delete the drivers you installed. If you can, revert to your old driver set.

Fist clean your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor specifically around your CPU central processing unit making sure there is no MOISTURE in the air line
as dust will cause a lot of static which will make a computer overheat and cause lots of problems
then test your power supply unit PSU if the fan is not working your PSU is faulty
replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive one bad lead will cause a computer to shut down
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty
then you might try
during the boot up process for a short time you will see press a certain key to enter set up
press that key to enter BIOS scroll to PnP/PCI configurations the default is disabled
select enabled to reset configuration if you have installed a new add on and it has caused a serious conflict that the operating system can not boot
hope this helps

Monitor stuck on black, menu buttons not responding

It's sort of a solution, but I work in a computer shop and got this screen in yesterday. I looked at it closely and it's actually the backlight that died. I pulled it apart and found that three of the 820uF/20V capacitors had swollen up. If you replace them then you should be fine, but I went for a different approach and took the inverter board from a laptop and put the in the screen and used an external power supply. It's a bit dark but it works fine now.
