When you turn on the rear ac it sounds like it humms and then trips the breaker. Any ideas? Thanks, John

it could be the capacitor gone bad. without it the compressor can draw lock rotor amps.

What is L.R.A. for a samsung SK1A1C-L2W ?

A rule of thumb for lock rotor amps is 5 times the running load amps. That unit probably draws 3-4 amps max when running so lock rotor probably 15- 20. If its drawing lock rotor amps try a hard start, if that wont do it unit is bad

What is the difrent between LRA and BTU ?

One really has not much to do with the other directly

BTU - British Thermal Unit.- A heat measuring unit. IE:12,000 BTU (British Thermal Unit.) The amount of heat required to melt one ton of ice.

LRA - Lock Rotor Ampere-LRA is nothing but locked rotor current , generally it is located on compressors name plate, when ever pistons locked at a particular position the rotor does not move further at the time rotor draws large current, that current is located on name plate, by seeing that LRA we can know compressor rotor was locked

My church has a roof top ac unit, model # GP-1360H41BA. The ratings plate has the following ratings: RLA 26.4 AND LRA 134. What is the KW draw of this unit 1. At startup 2. After startup?

RLA ( rate load amps/current) is the rate of unit ( usually about 65% against Max. load current < FLA/FLC>)
LRA ( Locked rotor amp/current)

Seems your AC use Y or Delta starter, so at start the current draws will between : 3X ( 26.4 to (26.4(1 +35%). And After start up the current draws will drop to 26.4 to 26.4(1+ 35%) in normal operation.
Remember, that the current draws also depending to the condition of your ac.

Ac compressor makes a repetitive starting sound but wont kick in all the way. Fan is working fine.

Verify proper line voltage to the unit and compressor prior to any further testing, and correct if found below normal.
I would check the amp draw thru the compressor circuit. the compressor may very well be "locked rotor" and be pulling a high amp draw. that magic number for locked rotor amps should be listed on the compressor nomenclature plate as "lra".
the compressor may not be pulling any amps if the windings are burnt though, as their will not be any flow of power through the device.
best of luck,

Locked rotor!

Turn the belt by hand and see if that frees the motor. GE is known for bad motors on the units made in the last two years.
