On electric there may be a thermostat or fuse trace the wires to see if they run straight to oven or to a fuse on back of oven or under cook top. if comes str8 off the board to element just check volts.

My convection oven ring does not work


These tend to crack and "unzip" because they are such a tight circle... Kill the power, and meter the ring element for ohm's resistance. If the element tests ok, check the wires to the element for overheating, and if those look fine, remove the control board and look for burnt solder joints where the relays are mounted. How much would it costs to replace heating element on Whirlpool gas oven.


I would not replace the elements just yet it may be ur oven safety valve, u can test the elements with a multi meter for continuity and ohms..

My oven doesn't work at all on the bottom while the top works fine

The oven internal light remians on all the time and now the oven doesn't heat up


1.Aclicking sound could be something wrong with a relay. Check for any loose connections around the main control board on your oven. The click you hear is a relay losing power and switching back on. If the clock resets then something is causing power interruptions to the board.

Grease fire in oven. elements would not come back


First verify 220 volts to the range where the cord connects.
Second,unplug the range and remove the element again and using a volt/ohm meter set for ohms or continuity check the element. No reading is a bad element.
Third, if power is OK and the element reads continuity check for power in at the oven control in the control panel.
Set for Bake and check power Out of the oven control.
No power out is a bad element.
If the control is OK,remove the oven temperature sensor and with the meter check for 1100 ohms +or- 25 ohms.
If not correct,replace the temp sensor.

Oven heats very slowly (Jenn-Air JGS9900BDS). Cooktop works fine. Broiler works. No error codes.


hi, Could be a bad bake element or a bad temperature sensor. If the element will glow bright red/orange with no hotspots it is OK. Take a volt/ohm meter set for ohms and check the temp sensor. If less than 1050 ohms replace it.

Oven not working. fans working no heat


You can test an element by using an ohm meter . Isolate (disconnect the two wires) and test it. It should have a fairly high resistance . low resistance means partly shorted.  zero resistance(no meter movement) means burned open.

Radiant heating elements


Check the element with an OHM meter.

This is not rocket science and an OHM meter can be used for many things. Any good appliance parts place, even Wal-Mart will have a meter which can be set to test AC/DC, OHM's etc. Set the meter on OHM setting and touch the two leads on the meter together, you will see the meter arm move. This is simply a test for continuity. Now take the element out of the Range, touch one lead to one end of the element and the other lead to the other end. If you do not get any reading then there is a break inside the element and must be replaced. If you get any reading at all then the element is good and the eye switch must be replaced.

There are some parts which require knowing how many OHM's but in this case you just need to check for a break inside the element (continuity).

You can check an extension cord this way or set it on the volts setting and check batteries. all kinds of fun.

Broken oven


First, verify it is the problem. (A working element has a conductive core, or wire, all the way through it). If the core wire is broken, it is defective. To verify it is broken, use an Ohmmeter - if value is above 500 Ohms the core is likely broken. Replace it.

To test without an Ohm meter, use a flashlight bulb and flashlight batteries, some wire and run the loop through the element. If bulb lights, core is ok.

If broken, take it in to any small appliance store as most oven elements are VERY similar. Likely they will have one in stock. They will be cheaper than over the internet.
