Hello Bryan !

The error 543:k usually comes up during initialization, and it happens whe the printer is not able to recognize the a cartridge or the drum. I have a C5500 my self with that same problem, after hours of research over the internet i fixed my problem following the instructions on this links:

http://www.katun.com/downloads/oki-c5100tnrcartiis.pdf

and

http://www.okic3400.co.uk/index.asp?menumode=0&content=sensorerror

If this doesnt help try doing a reset to the sensors on the printer following this steps:

1. Turn machine on while pushing and holding the (+/-) menu buttons at same time.
2. Menu window will show "OKI USER"
3. Scroll to " Engine Dialog Mode" is indicated. Push Enter button.
4. "Diagnostic Mode xx.xx.xx S-Mode is indicated.
5. Press (- or +) button until (“ENGINE = PARAMETER SET 2”) is displayed.
6. Push Enter button
7. "TONER SENSOR = ENABLE" is displayed.
8. Push Enter button
9. Press (- or +) "TONER SENSOR = DESABLE" is displayed.
10. press "ON-LINE/CANCEL" buttons at same time.
11. (*) is displayed.
12..... READY

You can try an NvRam (Hard reset) :

1. Turn machine on while pushing and holding the TWO up/down menu buttons at same time.
2. Menu window will show "OKI USER"
3. Scroll to " Engine Dialog Mode" is indicated. Push Enter button.
4. "Diagnostic Mode xx.xx.xx S-Mode is indicated.
5. Scroll to "NV-Ram initial" is indicated. Push ENTER.
6. Window shows "NV-Ram- Initial Table 1".
7. Push ONLINE and ENTER Buttons simultaneously and HOLD for 10 seconds after you see "Executing Reset" appear in menu window.
8. Restart printer.

If you need something else just let me know

Bryan

543:K toner sensor error. How do I fix it?

Hi dianabusk:
You have a bad K (Black) toner cartridge or the sensor is dirty, the sensors are located on the toner cartridge and in the machine where the toner cartridge seats. Try cleaning the sensors and/or replace the K (black) toner cartridge. The sensors are a silver color.

Hope this helps

Try reseating the toner cartridge, it might not be in good. Reseat the whole drum unit (the part the toner fits into).

Suggest you order a black drum, which may include a black cartridge. Replacing BOTH the cartridge and the drum should solve the sensor problem, then you can swap parts to isolate where the problem is.

Toner sensor error

After replacing a bad drum and toner cartridge, I'm receiving a 543: K Toner Sensor Error. It won't go away, we can't print :)

So i know its not a starter cartridge, and i've 'utilized' OKI's site for all its worth. Was hoping someone knew a possible solution. Thanks!

Toner sensor problems

On the base of machine after removing drums and transport, there are 4 sets of 3 pins that connect to left hand bottom of each drum, these can get toner on them and not make proper contact, each set of 3 pins just pop out with the help of a flat blade, out of base to be cleaned. in yout case just switch the set under the cyan with another lot from different colour.

I am taking it that you are using genuinne non imported oki drum and toner. If this doesnt fix your problem then you must have fauly drum/toner
