Question about Garmin GPSMAP 176C GPS Receiver
John, the light sensitive IC has failed. This is a small piece of electronic wizardry that adjusts the brightnessdepending on the ambient light. At night is is supposed to add brightnes and in sunlight reduce it
The sign of failure may have been early but you didint notice it. They often turn on ok then suddenly in daylight the screen will darken, turning the unit off and on resets it for a while. however it gets worse as time goes on.. iT is not a DIY and has to be sent back to the manufacturer for correction.
Contact Garmin for a quote before submitting it for repair, you might need a chair to sit on when they give you an answer. Contact the service support in 7 hills NSW 1 800 235 822
