Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Our Maytag LAT3500 will fill with water but when it should start to agitate it makes a humming noise and doesn't begin to agitate unless we mess with the timer. My husband took the timer off and took it to a repair store and they told him they didn't think it was the timer since we can get it started by turning it around. What else could the problem be?

Crosley washer won't agitate

Hello Carroll Mcknight - Is the washer making a humming noise? If so, either the drainage hose/pump is clogged and needs to be cleaned. If not, the unit may possibly be experiencing an issue with the door lock assembly, faulty pump, timer or control board not communicating correctly. Contact a professional to assist with the repairs and to move forward accurately.

My Maytag washing machine will fill with water but will not agitate as soon as the water level gets up the water shuts off and when it shut start all that happens is that it makes a humming noise

First check to see if the belts are all on under the machine, and see if the motor is turning. Chances are you have a broken belt, or the belt may be stretched and worn.If the belt is on and the motor is not turning, you may have a burnt out motor. If the belt is on and the motor is turning but the agitator isn't, you probably have a seized gearbox. But check the belts first.

My washer fills with water, then when its about time to start agitating, it just makes a humming noise, and doesnt agitate

You may just simply need a new belt. If not there could be 2 other issues, like something being stuck in the drain pump, or possibly a bad motor. Does it have any strange smell coming from underneath?

WILL NOT AGITATE, SPIN OR DRAIN. WASHER FILLS WITH WATER, HOWEVER, WHEN AGITATOR CYCLE BEGINS, MOTOR HUMS AND BELT WILL NOT MOVE.

Open the back cover and start the washing cycle. When the agitator cycle begins check if the motor rotates. If it does not and the humming sound comes there is problem is withe motor. Also check the tightness of the belt. Even if it is loose it does move but it is slippery movement unless it is completely loose. Anyway the problem is with your motor and the connecting bearing/pulley. You have to ask a technicians to help you out

Is the water filling up and then draining out? Mine did this and a part was broken inside the unit. The part was five dollars and called a lifter. I fixed it myself.

GE washing machine does not run, gives humming noise

A washing machine is a simple product.

When trouble shooting anything you have to know what is supposed to do and what is it not doing.

At the begining of a washing machine cycle the machine fills with water until a switch is made telling the machine it is full and ready to agitate. Since it never fills it will stick in that part of the cycle.

When you start a cycle and no water enters the drum you have one of three problems:

1. The water supply is shut off.
2. The solenoid valve that supplies the water is not opening.
3. No power to the washing machine.

Since you are hearing a hum, the machine seems to be trying to activate that valve,
The humming noise comes from the electromagnetic field that activates the valve,
