Your Yellow (constant battery) wire is not properly hooked up. The yellow wire is what keeps power to your unit while the car is off so that it keeps all the memory. I would start by checking to see if that wire is connected right and if so, start to trace it back from there. Hope this helps and good luck!

I am installing alpine ixa-w407 into a 2000 suzuki grand vitara. is there anything i should know aside from hooking up the harness and antenna from vehicle into the alpine?

You should check to see if it has an remote out in the back ...cause if you are planing to install an amplifier will need it ...cause amplifiers (specially for woofers ) are connecting to the power directly to the + of the battery ..and the - on the body (ground) ..and it is switched on the remote cable attached on the player ..This way it will power on in the same time and also react on the break on ..and when the key is switched off.
Also for an amplifier it should have rca out separate from teh normal left and right stereo going to the speakers ..
The rest is just standard harness ..

Cant set the time

What you need to do is buy a PAC TR7 universal trigger module.Without this module you have to do some sequence of events with your brake and parking brake.and it wont let you program the unit. By default the TR7 is pre programmed for the video bypass. Even if you don't have any kind of video in your system you need this TR7 setup to program your IXA W407.

WHY would you connect it to the brake wire???

You likely want to connect to 100% power from the battery. It should be fused however. Find where the clock in the car was/is powered and connect it to that.

Bypassing the ebrake-grounding doesn't work on Alpine-iXA-W404

Found the solution

Either get a pair of toggle switches to simulate the Foot Brake and Parking Brake OR get a product (from PAC) that simulates it for you.

Bypass iXA-W404

The 404 requires multiple signals from two separate wires to turn off the video block. Simply grounding one wire will not work. There are bypass modules that will send these signals to the head unit available on ebay. Just search alpine 404 bypass. Your other option is to use two toggle switches to simulate the parking brake and foot brake signals necessary to disable the video block.

Alpine IXA-W404 how do i can't get video to play. I didn't connect the hand brake wire and the footbrake wire, would that be the cause and if so how do I get past it??

You need to connect the yellow/black wire to the brake switch and the yellow/blue wire to the ground wire on the hand brake. After that you have to go through the task of holding down the foot brake, pull the hand brake, release the hand brake, pull the hand brand then release the foot brake.

after all that then you can watch your video. You will want to connect those wires so you can setup your system.
