Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-60WF655 60" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Does not light, no sound, but rear fan works. I have no video cable connected as of now. Should I not see the screen light up and some noise from the speaker? What might be some possible causes and the probable costs. I hope I have given enough clues? Thanks!

I need following info to diagnose problem in your tv.
Is it Sony KDF-60WF655 tv or any other model?
Do you see blinking power/standby red light on tv front? If yes, how many times it blinks after 3 seconds long pause.
How old is this tv and did you replaced lamp in last 2-3 years?
Thanks.

Sorry, I neglected the most important point and it is that the tv is a Sony KDF-60WF655. It was purchased February 2005. When I press the power button the green light blinks 4 times and the red light blinks 3 times. It keeps blinking this sequence of 3 reds. I'm repairing this for a friend who had it given to him and so I don't know if the bulb had ever been changed before. I have been reading a lot of comments concerning this model and the cost of the bulb which by the way is defective. That I know. Is it worth repairing? Thanks again!

OK, if the red light label is Lamp on tv then tv needs Lamp replacement.
and if red light is Power/Standby light then check lamp cover that has not been installed correctly because lamp cover push micro safety switch inside that tells system control that lamp cover is fixed correctly.
Let me know your finding to fix this tv.
    Thanks.

I took the lamp out before I did the test . I realized that from what you had said. So, I put the lamp back in and tried the test again and this time the Power/standby lamp just stayed red and continuously stayed red and did not blink.I never pressed the Power/standby button when I did this test. I guess this says that just the lamp is the problem, right? Thanks!

Yes, it could be lamp problem. What about lamp light on tv front? Does it lit solid?

My tv sanyo cm21kf81A, chassis number FC3-G221 has snow noise on all tv channels, but AV1 and AV2 play good sound

First check cable wire or whatever is connected to set for channels--the leads are connected and wiggle them with set on to see if it clears up--could be a connection where cable wire is connected at end--loose connection there etc.

If tuner is bad causing this and you use a box for signal--most have rear audio/video outputs you can connect to a unused video/audio input on rear of set---bypass the tuner in the set and operate set that way changing channels on box instead of set.

let me know if you have questions or have more information.

hi,
if the sound is not coming from the fan then check the connections of ur lamp, if there is any loose contact in the connection there will occur a sound. also fan will produce some noise if its bearing have some problem. it will work fine but produce noise. the lamp will make noise at the starting time afterwords it will not.

Samsung HLN5065W 50 in. Rear Projection HDTV-Ready

With the back off of the set it will shut off. There is a lever it engages to prevent the set being operated with the back off.

The color Wheel will cause a fan like or high pitched grinding noise. I can tell you where to buy it and also there are on the internet places with written and VIDEO instructions for the replacement in most of these sets.

Put the back on and see if the set again works and still has the noise.

Video and audio dont work

you may want to call sony. make sure that your ps3 is clean and dust free, that the vent doesn't have anything blocking it. make sure that your cables are connected tightly, in the rear of the ps3 as well as on your tv.

Denon AVR 2106 clicking noise

I like when a user is observant and curious. That will help immensely in resolving this problem.

What source(s) are always involved with the problem?

You imply it is observable with output video to the TV - "only when there is movement on my tv screen and it stops in still screen". That sounds like a digital pathway problem of some sort as any data errors would eventually escalate to something audible or visible to you once the hardware and correction algorhythms are exhausted. The clicking inside the receiver could be its efforts to resynchronize with a bad data stream. Hence, I'd like you to isolate the ins and outs that fail all the time and find the probable single source of the problem.

Try this: put a digital source on and select/deselect it for listening or viewing. Does it make the click in that brief time it's 'thinking' before you hear the source? That would be the 'normal' sound. My Pioneer does it once per source switch. Repeated clicking would mean it's struggling.

I'm betting you have an optical or hdmi cable that's flaky or not in tight and straight. Or, if only one extternal source is involved we follow that back.

The blue and green light and the fan come on but it keeps saying

This sounds like a cable issue. I would make sure everything is connected correctly/securely and if that doesn't work I would try a new cable. If it isn't the cable you can return it for no cost other than gas.

19 in blue screen only sound works great

blue screen is the noise mute screen. however the audio is not getting muted and hence the buzzing....meaning the tuner on the TV is not getting locked on to the station/frequency

1. check your antenna if you are using one. Autotune
OR
2. Reconnect coax from the cable box to Tv and autotune.
OR
3.Use the Video out from the cable box and connect it to one of the video inputs on the TV. Switch your Tv to that component. Use the cable box to change channels (Best case scenerio)

if you get a blue screen than your lamp is working fine. blue screen is considered "video mute" it display that blue if the tv thinks there is no video. try to reset the tv by pressing - menu 123 then reset to system defaults.
