Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

I have a d12-700 receiver and would like to control changing channels using the remote for my ReplayTV model RTV5040. Is there a solution? I was told by Directv that the Replay TV system is too old and will not work and I will have to use both remote controls. The real problem is when I want to record a program using the Replay TV, it cannot change the channel and therefore does not record the program. Hope you can help.

SOURCE: TV only will play HD Channels

This must be the setup for your TV box. Contact the support for your TV box.

Normaly, the TV should auto select the proper operation mode.

SOURCE: initial set up w/directv

First, I hope you got an extended warranty with that. Otherwise it's a disposable T.V. after your warranty is up.NO PARTS are available. Hope it lasts more than a year..if your lucky. You need to change the channels on the direct tv box. Don't scan the t.v. You need the t.v. on channel 3 or video input that the box is connected to. Do you have hdmi cables? How did you hook the box to the T.V.? Did you read your book that came with the T.V. about hooking it up with a cable box??? Same thing as Direct T.V. box. That should show exactly how to connect. More info will help dtermind your problem.

SOURCE: I can't change channels, message on TV says,'' no input available''.

Have you tried reprogramming the Dish remote with the Sharp code? That might bring back the TV control. Another option is to use the TV's control panel menu button (if available), go to the setup choices and have the TV scan for channels while the Dish receiver is on. It will find channel 3 then, and probably nothing else, so the set will stay on that channel.

To see if the problem is with your remote control, go to the receiver and use the channel up/down buttons on the receiver itself. If you can change your channels with the buttons on the receiver, the batteries in your remote control probably need to be changed.

If you can't change channels from the receiver, turn off the receiver. Then unplug it for at least 15 seconds. Plug the receiver back it and turn it on. Again, try changing channels from the receiver itself.

Tune to a channel, and while programming is playing, try tuning to the missing channel by entering the channel number on the remote control keypad to see if channels change. Do not try to select the channel from a channel list, program guide, or favorites list.

If this approach takes you to the correct channel, you need to adjust your favorites list function. Press the "guide" button on your remote. Look for a button on your remote called "fav" or "list." Press it several times and watch for an indication at the top of the guide that you are moving from "all channels" to a particular favorites list.

If you are locked on one channel only, your Channel Lock feature is likely active. Consult your owner's manual to unlock the rest of your channels. See your owner's manual for information on managing favorite channel lists and locking out channels. Enter your password, if necessary.

My remote only turns the tv on. Seems busted, but I think it is the receiver or receiver logic in the tv that is broken.I bot i used, and the guy told me the problem, and I use the DVR to control volume and channel, so it works out. But I would like to fix it, if possible, and change settings.Oh, I can't even turn it off with remote, so I leave on continuously. The switch on the TV is inconvenient.

Logitech Harmony remote having trouble changing the channel

Harmony remotes use IR commands, so you will always have to have line of sight for it to work.

However, if you are using the RF extender, ensure that the device you are using to change channels is assigned to the extender, and that the extender is properly paired.

You may need to readdress the remote to the receiver. I have provided a link with instructions on how to readdress the remote to the receiver. On the page that opens, select your receiver model which will open a PDF file with the instructions; begin with step 4. If this doesn't help, then you will need to replace the remote. I hope this helps.

Harmony 550 remote does not change tv input when device is changed (ie DVD to PVR)

I had a similar problem setting up the 550 today. The problem was caused by the delay time needed by the TV before it was "ready" to receive new commands. I have a Vizio LCD. The problem was solved using the Harmony software for troubleshooting the TV device. I selected "does not change input on startup" or some such similar wording. It then allowed me to change the delay time. I extended the time to 7500ms and it would then change channels. I also changed the sequence of startup for devices to start the DVD and ReplayTV second (after the TV) to give the TV more time to boot up (or whatever it really is doing).

You can also add additional commands to insert a delay and then re-issue the input selection. However, I don't remember the sequence of steps that got me to that screen. Good luck.

Cannot down TV Schedule

1. Press Menu on the remote. 2. Choose Setup from the menu. 3. Scroll to Connect to ReplayTV Service Now. 4. If you don't have this option try this. For ReplayTVs running older software: 1. First, exit any menus you're currently in. 2. Press "2-4-3" on the remote followed quickly by pressing the "Zones" button - this will launch an informational screen, with like a 1-Exit, 2-Clear the Channel, etc. 3. Select #7, 'Net Connect' from the menu. (#4 on ReplayTV 2000 or 3000 series). A message at the bottom of the tv screen will indicate a successful connection. If you are unable to force a connection using this method, you may need to reboot your unit. This is done by pressing and holding the "Power" button on the front of the unit for 10 seconds. (Note: When you hear the fan in the rear of the unit turn off, your unit is rebooting.) Now repeat the previous instructions to force a connection. This is all found on the support site: http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/support/replaytv/document.asp?docID=87
