The most common cause of the problem you just described is a lid switch malfunction or lid strike (actuator) problem. Symptoms may include, filling and stopping on the intial fill cycle, stopping right after the wash cycle, not advancing to rinse or spin cycles, and a wash tub that will not drain.

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike" or "Actuator") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3557193-replacing_a_lid_switch

On some models, the lid switch is located under the top casing by one of the lid hinges. You will know if you if you have this type of switch, because it does NOT have a lid strike (actuator) and the small hole on the right hand side of the wash tub will not be present. This type of switch is actuated (toggled) by a rod on the lid hinge. With this type of switch, if you locate it and it can be toggled by hand, you may only need to adjust the actuator rod by bending it slightly.

NOTE: You do not have to drain or bail the water from the washer tub to perform this repair. Once a defective lid switch is replaced, the washer should drain normally.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

If the model number you listed this question under is correct, the part number for a replacement lid switch is 8054980. The lid strike (actuator) is the lid hinge rod on this model. The average price of a replacement lid switch is about $20 - $30 if you perform the repair yourself.

If you have questions, or need additional assistance, please post back and let me know. This is a very simple repair that you can easily perform without the assistance of a repairman.

If this advice does not help you enough, repairclinic.com has a Repair Manual you can order to assist you with all your repairs. The part number is 1170635 and is priced at about $20.

Searspartsdirect.com also has a repair manual for about the same price. Part number 4313896. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Hi there,

Well first of all you may check out the drain line - Probably the drain line is clogged. Many time a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the small cloth out from it. To remove the sock from the outer tub, open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. After then you use a needle-nose pliers and try to grab and remove the clothing through the port. Please post comments if you need further help or information.......

Good Luck!!

Thanks

SOURCE: machine didn't empty water after rinse cycle. Now

Check for power at socket using a lamp. If nothing, check the breaker for that circuit in the house electrical panel--push OFF, then ON. If now get light, try the washer again. If you get a loud hum from the machine, it may be a locked motor. Pull the plug again and check the motor. The tub can be drained by lowering the end of the drain hose below the interior water level.

many machine spin a full tub as they are pumping the water out
this helps to even out the washing load and reduce the unbalance situation
when the water is removed , the machine progresses the program to a high speed spin
call a technician as there may be a problem in the program board

Samsung WA12F5L4. Got 4e error. Machine set to wash rinse and spin. When it reaches the rinse cycle, the tub fills, it start rinsing, but the water keeps flowing, it doesnot turn off. Help please. Jus

this could be the water valve getting stuck on. you may need to replace the valve in question (hot or cold). it could be the pressure sensor that tells the machine when to stop filling. check there are no obstructions to the pipe leading to the pressure sensor, then replace the sensor (or board it is on)

No cold rinse, only hot

Either the wires have come loose on the water valve or you have a defective water valve.Open the lid and look at the water valve. Are all wires connected?
If yes, replace the water valve.

GE Top load washer.

Hello rschneeweis
Welcome,

Sounds like a seal or drain hose is leaking or the clamp on a hose has vibrated loose.

Water leaking out the bottom of the machine when washing machine begins agitation cycle. If the machine is turned off the water stops leaking even with the tub full of water.

Let me know if you found it and how you do.

Bosch classixx 1000 washing machine - stops on spin

Washing machine stops at the spin cycle - light flashes. Have to drain water out manually. Happened last week and was then able to run an empty rinse cycle. Machine worked normally for another week. Same problem today but have had to drain water manually from the drum after trying an empty 90 wash and rinse cycle (both stopped on the Spin and flashed). Any ideas? Thanks. x
