I am trying to install the poly belt on a model 1805B Makita planer. According to the number on the belt and the part number in the parts breakdown it is the right belt. However is appears to be too shortl I have had t he new belt for a few years.

The part number for the belt is 225006-9 on Tool Parts Direct. However on Tools Parts Direct they show the belt obsolete and have no replacement. I found a different part number 225042-5 on this site http://www.powertoolspares.com/makita_parts.php?ModelID=3 I found the same part number on this site. http://www.mtmc.co.uk/404.aspx?404;http://www.mtmc.co.uk:80/Belt-Sander-Abrasives---100mm-x-560mm/Makita-1805B-spare-parts__p-163-17814.aspx The old belt has more than likely stretched and will appear longer than the new belt. If you can install the belt do so. Otherwise you may have the wrong belt.

The new belt that I have is brand new (unused) however it has been in stock for awhile. It h as the Makita logo and name and the number 225006-9 stamped on the belt. It is at least 1/2" too short. Do they shrink with age?

It should not have shrunk but it is possible. Have your tried to force it on?

I've had really good luck with Tool Parts Direct. They send emails when something ships and are upfront about the parts they order direct from the manufacturer.
Part Number 225071-8 is $10.79 and ships in 10-14 business days.

Putting Sanding paper on makita sander

A makita power planer is just what it says, a planer. It has blades that spin at high speed and remove a thin layer of wood with each pass. The orbital sanding sheets go on another tool called an orbital sander. Write back if you find the sander and can not figure out how the sheets go on it.

FITTING DETAILS FOR MAKITA PLANER BLADES

It depends on the planer blade set that you are using. If you are using the the 2 sided blades there is a guage that goes with it to set the blade depth before installing. I would strongly recommend that you go to Makitatools.com and type in your model number and download a copy of the owners manual for specific instructions. Let me know if you have any problems finding them
