It means that either the cd rom drive is not identified by the system, or the cd disk is unreadable or incorrect. First of all make sure (from the bios) that the cd rom is identified by the system. If not you have to check the cd rom's jumper settings or the bios settings for the IDE channel with the cd rom.
A good idea is to check if the cd rom (the disk) at another pc is readable.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply.
If you are satisfied, accept my solution.

I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY ACER ASPIRE M1100 COMPUTER,WHICH I PURCHASED IN 2008. SPECIFICALLY, THE DVD RAM IS NOT FUNCTIONAL AT ALL. THE CD RAM HOWEVER, IS WORKING JUST FINE. PLEASE, HELP ME FIX THIS...

You better check the DVD if this is recognized by going to My computer > Device manager > DVD/CD-ROM drive and see if mark as ( ? ) question mark. also check the IDE slot as well as cable if its properly attach or insert, try to change IDE cable at least. Check the power supply socket all going thru your DVD, might no supply or power entering the drive that's why it's not recognized.

Good luck.

Cd player will not read disks. Device manager on Vista gives a code 19 error, but says the drive is up to date

Even though the driver indicates "up to date" it will not hurt to reload the driver. Do this and let me know what happens.

Issue Installing 4th Drive Device (2 DVD Drives and 2 Harddrives)

You cannot plug an IDE ribbon in the floppy slot (port). The total IDE drives you can install is four (4). But check your jumper configuration. The DVD & DVD/CD-ROM cannot have the same jumper configuration to share the same IDE slot. One has to be MASTER (MS) and the other SLAVE (SL). Or you may put both drives on CABLE SELECT (CS).

DVD RW Drive

Vista sucks. However, delete your drive and change the IDE cable. Also, put the drive onto another IDE channel so it re-initializes your drive - winodws data bases a drive when it has more than 5 DMA errors and clocks its speed down to PIO - very slow

Simply....... no. Once formatted it's reinstall time.
You can load you're windows cd into the cdrom drive & try to get windows to load. If you do get the cdrom to load - (Press any key to load from cd...... ) & press any key. Once in windows setup ( DO NOT format the drive) but do reinstall windows, if windows see's another windows on your drive, great install over it. If windows does re-install it's self you should have enough time to install burner software & back up your personal data to CD or DVD before your partition looses it's cookies & shuts you down.
You can also leave it alone & install another drive & setup windows complete & slave it back into you're system for IDE.
SATA's are all master drives. Than copy your data back to you're new drive. In these cases I always suggest the user go to the web site of the hard drive & download the Mfg's bootable software tool's/setup utilities. Windows is not perfact at formatting.

Luck!
Mike

Replace A Hard Drive On E-Machines ?mperial motherboard glve

First, check the jumpers on the back of the drive to ensure that it's set for master. There will be a legend on the drive label explaining where the jumper needs to be to achieve this. If it has been used as a system drive previously you won't need to worry about this.

Second, physically fit the drive into the tower and connect the IDE ribbon cable. The motherboard end of the cable should connect to the primary IDE slot. To identify which one is primary look closely next to the two slots, they'll be marked IDE 0 and IDE 1. IDE 0 is primary. Connect a molex power connector to the back of the drive from the PSU.

Since this drive has been used previously you should now be able to install your chosen operating system from a CD or DVD. XP and Vista both have options for creating/deleting and formatting existing partitions during setup.

These are simplified instructions and assume that it is an IDE drive and not SATA and that no second hard drive will be installed on the same IDE bus. More detailed instructions can be found here:

Hope this helps,

erch.

Good day, Forwork

I recommend, you take out the hard drive, put in the other IDE port, presumming is IDE drive, and let the DVD cd rewritable on Cable Select.
Another try, is Start Up on Save mode, and uninstall the drivers for your particular CD/DVD device, and restart your PC, then the system Should install them automatically, or you can do it manually. this should fix your problem.
Good Luck! (presuming you use Windows Xp)
