Sounds a lot like you just have a broken backlight. You can get a new one on ebay or laptop battery store. You have have to open the Laptop and replace the part. The part is available on ebay. Here's a guide on how to disassemble a Laptop. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you. If you want to pay to have somebody do it for you there are third party Laptop Repair Services.

Display flickering

It could be a loose connection from the LCD screen to the motherboard. However, this can be risky to fix unless you are experienced with laptop repair.

It could also be faulty graphics card.

Graphics drivers may need updating.

The screen itself could be faulty and failing.

The system power supply may be faulty and not providing enough power.

Basically, it needs service - probably by a certified Dell technician.

it is a hard drive issue, check in your bios menu to see if the bios is able to detect the harddrive.... if not, it probraly a loose connection or simply damaged harddrive, and needs to be replaced.

Usually that error means that your laptop's charging circuit is not charging the battery. Either your motherboard has a problem or your battery. Here's a link for your model's service manual: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1525/en/SM/index.htm

My inspiron 6000's power flickers on and off intermittently, switching between A/C & battery power. I've replaced the power cord. Any other ideas?

Try removing batt and use ac adapter alone. Check if laptop works fine also check if LED flickers still.

Try removing ac adapter and use battery alone and check if batt flickers as well.

If flickering only happens when both are connected or vice versa try this first. Update the BIOS for your laptop. Download the BIOS update from http;//support.dell.com

Dell Inspirion Laptop Screen Randomly Flickers, Then Blacks Out

not to get to concerned just yet, a few tips, when you press on the top of the laptop case by the screen area in the back of the laptop do you notice the screen flickering off? and when you let go dose it come back on? if so this can be a faulty wire or bad inverter, they are actually both very simple to fix and relatively cheap fixes.

Dell inspiron 6000 power adapter problem

If the DC socket at the back of the laptop is moving, that means that one or more soldering joints on the motherboards are broken. The way to fix the problem is by disassembling the laptop completely, the laptop, taking motherboard out, and replacing the socket.
This requires full disassembling and a precision de-soldering and soldering job on the motherboard.
Using the computer in this conditions can cause further damage.

The inspiron has known issues with overheating and heatsink fan issues.. Contact dell tech support if under warranty or just buy a new motherboard cause yours is probably dead now.

Dell Latitiude 1100 Will not boot has poweron issue

I also have a dell inspiron 1100. It seems that it has overheated, and your motherboard or CPU has fried, or died from the heat. What you say sounds like a motherboard failure

There is currently an ongoing lawsuit. Also, take my advice, and instead of trying to fix it, you're better of getting a new computer, as the dell is getting old anways. I spent some extra cash and got myself a vaio.
