Question about Dryers

Open Question

I have a Maytag Electric dryer (Mod# MEDC400VW0) that is less than 1 year old. A couple months ago I noticed a high pitch whine that only lasted for a couple of seconds, then heard it again about 10 min later & so-on. (It's not constant, but happens everytime heat cycles are used.) Had a repair guy come out & change the heating element, but he said the noise was not loud enough or lasting long enough to really pin-point where it was coming from. That seemed to fix the problem for a couple weeks, but now the noise is back. I've got another repair guy coming on Monday, but was wondering if anyone had some suggested areas I could have him check since he may not be able to 'pin-point' the problem.....

SOURCE: My Maytag dryer makes an aweful noise.

Typical parts that wear out and get noisy on that model are the two drum rollers (part # 12001541), the front drum glides #306508, the idler pulley Y303705 and the blower wheel 303836. None of these parts are very expensive, but to do all of them would definitely add up to the point that you might want to think about whether or not you want to keep the machine in operation especially after 10 years of good service.

SOURCE: MAYTAG PYE2300AYW ELECTRIC DRYER - HEATER SHUTS OFF PREMATURELY

First off, how are you looking to check this situation. Either way, it would be normal for this to happen. When you are looking at the elements heating, you more than likely have the door open to see them. The heater will do what they call "short cycling" because the airflow has outside source air getting into the heat stream. The door and lid almost always has to be shut for this system to work correctly. You can sometimes crack the top just enough to see the element heat. Usually, if the element is coming on at all, then the system should be fine. If you have a dryer thats not drying your clothes completely, its more than likely you have a ventilation issue (i.e vent tube restriction, grass growing in the end of the vent, etc). Also remember these Maytags have two thermostats on them most of the time. One directly over the top of the element, and one in the fan housing at the front of the unit. Try those, if there isnt a change, write me back and will look from there. Good Luck!!!!

SOURCE: No heat

What I learned is that the dryer needed a new fuse. The service man took off the back panel to reach any components and replaced the fuse. The dryer now works.

Hello: I have a Maytag MDE9700AYM that was purchased three years ago but has been installed for less than one year. After the unit runs for 10-20 minutes, the circuit breakers trips off. Otherwise the...

It's possibly the circuit breaker rather than the dryer itself. Usually when it trips, it is overloaded or shorted. Overload can be a result of a loose connection or a bad heating element, when you remove the old breaker, see if it has some noticeable burn/corrosion marks where the wire is screwed down, I think replacing the breaker will fix the problem. Hope this helped Tim

Dryer still heats up, but it sounds like the motor is making a high pitch whining noise?

something might be hitting the blower wheel or the wheel could be cracked, remove the bottom panel, take out the lint filter and remove the duct that the filter slides into, start the dryer and check the blower wheel to see if it's that or the motor, clean out the duct and vac out the inside of dryer while you're in there, blow out the vent line,do this once a year and you'll have less problems with dryer and no fires

High pitched buzz/whine during wash cycle only, spin fine

1) Make sure valve is open all the way 2) some machines have a screen inside of the hose hook up which could be clogged. 3) last check to see if it is the hot or cold by switch your selector switch on your machine to hot then cold. If one of these positions eliminate the noise then the valve in the machine is bad.

Maytag SE1000 Dryer - high pitch buzz, then total non-start

Often, after a power surge that exceeds the parameters of surge suppression devices on the circuit board, the unit will do this. You will more than likely have a failed control board now and will need to replace it.
