Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have an element ELGFT471 47 inch television and I want to hook it up to my stereo system to get surround sound. The DVD/Stereo system (Phillips HTS33713) I have works when I play a DVD, but not for my video games or when I am watching TV. In the sound menu I do not see an option to shut off the television's sound so that the stereo can work.

Thank you for your help. I actually did not need another RCA cable, once I hooked up the digital audio cable both the television and game consoles worked through the HT.

Your tv doesn't have audio analog output so you must make some connections if you want the sound from the tv on your Philips.
To get the tv /cable sound you must use a Digital Audio cable from the tv to the HT and select the Digital entry as source on the HT and mute the sound from the tv.
To get the audio from the game console you must use another audio RCA cable from the console to the HT and select the coresponding audio source in the HT.

Rca model rtd3266 won't produce aux audio through the tv even though we have hooked up the red and white cables. It only playes the surround sound when you watch the dvd.

I believe you have misunderstood something. The audio output from your TV is stereo. Your RCA system produces surround output from your TVs stereo input.

I hooked up my system and only the front 2 speakers and the SW work. How do I get the others to work?

You're in Stereo mode.

Try three things:

1) See if your receiver is in Stereo mode.
2) You can change your audio preferences from within your DVD menu from Stereo to surround.
3) Change receiver and dvd audio menu options to Dolby ProLogic surround.

Sound only from left front and right front speakers possibly my projection screen tv is only 2.1 channel does this mean i cannot have surround

surround receivers are supposed to be able to turn a stereo signal into a surround signal.  if the surround unit is producing just a stereo sound, then the tv is most likely outputting in mono, and not stereo; or there is no surround sound to decode..

Getting stereo speakers to work with flat panel tv

if you hook the low-level audio-out from the tv to an input to the stereo unit, whatever you play on tv will send audio to surround/stereo reciever unit. look on back of tv for red &white AUDIO OUTPUT terminals. plug red/white audio cables from tv to the back of your stereo & plug into audio input of an open source on stereo (tv/video,aux. in,etc.) good luck!

Hooking up surround sound

to get the digital you have to have the digital optical line or the coax rca jack digital audio connection from device to stereo reciever to get the dolby digital surround sound to work , otherwise you can only get a virtual surround sound from the reciever( no dolby digital )

It will depend on the signal you get from television stations, as well do you have this running through a stereo, the t,v. I mean. Depends on a number of things as D.V.D's are recorded a certain way such as with "Dolby THX" for instance. If I am right, you are running your television with built in dvd through a home stereo, am I correct?

Can't get the surround sound to play the rear speakers and small front speaker

Sounds like it's just in 2 channel stereo mode, only 2 speakers working out of 5 and a sub, look for a selector switch for switching to 5.1 surround, as far as the no video problem try replacing the cable for the video connection.
