Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hi There. Not sure what key i've gone and pressed. The majority of the letters/numbers on my keyboard all work in first hand english but some of the keys where i have an option with a smaller blue number ie L will no longer type l it only types 3, k types 2 and so on. I guess it's the third option because crtl would just turn it into a capital and i'm not sure what i've done. In order to get it to type as a letter i have to press and hold down the FN button. Can i fix this????????

You have turned on the numeric keys on your laptop. It is turned off/on by the following.

Press the Num Lock key. If nothing happens, try Shift+Num Lock.
If the text Num Lock is shown in a different color, find the matching-color key, such as Alt or Fn. Then press that key in combination with Num Lock.
You’re successful when the Num Lock light comes on. At that point, the keyboard has switched into numeric keypad mode.

Keyboard incorrectly types a mixture of letters and numbers when certain keys are used.

There are a couple of things you could try:
1. Remove the keyboard following a service manual for your laptop, and reseat the ribbon cable underneath it.
2. If the problem still isn't solved, the keyboard should be replaced

Your numlock is turned on. There is more than one way to turn it off.Find a USB keyboard, and plug it in. Then push the numlock key on the USB keyboard to turn it off.OR, if you don't have access to one of those, hold down the fn key (lower left hand corner of the keyboard) and press the key with numlock or number lock written on or near it.

It sounds like you've got the Number Turned On.

Their should be a button with NUM LOCK on it and somewhere on the keyboard and an LED with NUM LOCK next to it which will be on.

My keyboard on my laptop replaces the letters with numbers and/or characters when i click them, like when i press "I" i get the number 5, or w, o, p, l, k, I get fancy characters

Go to the control panel first and check the Regional settings and languages icon. Look in there and make sure all the settings say either "English- United States or just United States.

If everything is correct there, hold down the Fn key and tap the Num Lock key, then try the keyboard again.

Hi, I've got 2 eeepcs, with identical problems,

When the RH side of the keboard types numbers instead of letters then the Num Lock (number lock) key has been pressed.
Press the Num Lock Key again to return to letters again, usually this is usually done by pressing the Fn key plus and probably the Scroll keys, this key will be also marked NumLk, and there will be a LED light that will indicate when the number lock is on.
