the problem is that its set in the power saving options. i mean on battery its set to power saver . while on power adapter it changes to hp recomended or high perfomance. So if you want to change it go to the right bottom of your screen and click the battery symbol it should give you the option to 1> change screen brightness 2>more power options. Go to more power options and select "change plan settings" beside the power saver.(not the one beside the other options) and change ur brightness. but its always better to keep it at ur minimum(with what ur comfortable) as its helpful to save battery
make sure the AC adapter is plugged in to the netbook and into an wall outlet that works . the dim indication tells me that there is power diminishing while the ipod takes more power from your computer .
to adjust the brightness click start menu then go to control panel. From the control panel look for POWER OPTION. At the left side you will see "ADJUST THE DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS" option
make sure you are close enough to the access point, and make sure your computer is connecting properly to your phone in the fist place. Also, don't turn off your phone when using the tethering software.
Try to change the setting of the brightness in BIOS, You can access bios by pressing f2 after you turn on the computer, then you will see brightness there, max out the brightness.
If it still does not work then go to the power options of your laptop then change the setting of the brightness when the charger is plugged in.
Usually hitting a button on the keyboard or moving the mouse works.
If it is really a problem go into your display settings through the control panel, access the power options and stop your monitor from going into powersave mode.
