Question about Sony Video Cameras

1 Answer

Hi, I have a DCR-DVD 101E that has, on a recent trip, broke down and I don't know why as it had been filming and taking photos without problems ever. It's like new as I'd not used it much over the years that I've had it. When it broke down, I believe the battery was very low...I hadn't realized that and also the outdoor temperatures where I was filming were freezing and close to that. As I was recording, at once a line of red dots coming and going was flashing and then some message came up about disc error or other and since then it doesn't work, even after I did charge the camera and tried to view all that I'd been recording on that trip and no go....disc error or other warning. Today I tried to see the exact warnings and wanted to put that disc from my trip in and now the disc compartament won't even open, it makes ping-ping sound and flashes the red lite, but does not open, had to take the battery off to get it to stop doing that and then I just turned it off. HELP PLEASE !!!! THANKS

When the surrounding temperature is extremely low then the dew sensor kicks in and displays a warning. If ignored then this warning can damage the camera as you have seen. Keep it plugged in and leave it like that for half an hour(in a warm place) and see if the error clears itself.

Hi, I thought I would receive a reply at my email address, have been waiting there. I did of course charge the camara the very same day, so it stayed plugged in for hours. This incident occured in February, there was no warning about any dew sensor, etc.... I thought it would be more a question about the battery having gone out on me, nevertheless you did not answer my question about the data recorded if that would be on the disc or not and that my camcorder cannot display because of this problem ????

Yes, Now that I have a more clear picture of the problem, it can be a problem with the battery. May be its past the recharge cycle limit and is not charging. It would be the first thing I would try to see if the problem resolves itself. If not then let me know and we will continue troubleshooting.

Hi again, The battery reads full after charging and the camara in photo mode works and allows reviewing but the filming-recording mode does not work and the camara does not allow reviewing of any recorded data from that mode, only photos. This incident occurred in February, since then I do not use the handycam, only after the trip in Feb. I tried to see how it was working and thus found the above mentioned functioning but the other day before writing for help, I tried again to make a control and now also the disc compartament does not open though it makes ping-ping sound and flashes the red light. I had to remove the battery to stop this from going on..... I have the impression that the whole system is going hay-wire...... Any more ideas about this problem ???? Could you please tell me if the data recorded on the disc, when this error occurred, can be saved, as it had not been finalized, I cannot see it on my PC. ???????? Many thanks for your help.

As a matter of fact the disc compartment does not eject if there's a problem with the battery too.

HI-- I have just purchased an old Olympus Trip MD 35mm automatic camera, with in built flash. I think have correctly loaded the fillm and batteries, but it won't turn on...It won't take pictures...

Make sure that the batteries are good. If it does not work with known good batteries then you certainly have an issue with the camera electronics. Test to see if the on/off switch is any good.

Hi There, Can someone please help me! As I mentioned earlier that I am given a SONY DCR PC 101E camcorder. It came with a fire wire cable. May I know how do I download my video to my Windows 7 OS laptop...

You would needs to install the Sony software that came with the camera for transferring the video from your cam to computer.
First you will need to install the software, during installation it will prompt you to connect the camera. Once you connect the camera thru the Firewire port the installation will proceed and you will be able to download the Video from Camera to the computer.

For any additional assistance feel free to write back.

Thank you for choosing Fixya

My sony Handycam DCR-DVD805 is not working. On pressing reset it works for 2-3 minutes and again shuts down. What may be the problem? Can it be set right at home or needs repair.

The cameras that use DVD disks have a 89% break down rate, the media simply is not made for things we carry around like cameras, just grab a camera with tape that records your great movie films, the DVD idea is a sales idea from camera makers to grab your money, but the media simply does not seem to work mostly on cameras.

Filming transfer

Several steps are involved. You will need a firewire or USB cord to connect your camera to your computer. You will need a video capture application on your PC. Macs come with this program, I-Movie. Once captured, the movies can be edited. Your PC will need a combination drive to burn a DVD from the captured material. An easier way: Take your camera output and feed it directly into a DVD recorder. No editing, but it is a one-step process. I use both methods.

Please help soon

Hey! I think what you need is a Video Converter software by which you can convert almost all kinds of video including camecoder video to any video format for playing on PC or other players and cell phone. You can have a try of this Wondershare Video Converter Platinum which works well and is very easy to use.
Hope that helps.
