Question about Kenmore 84072 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Time to change the dryer or is it worth fixing? When we start the dryer, the motor starts sluggishly and eventually slows down after 3 minutes. As it slows there is a groaning noise. There is a burning smell. It is a 7 year old dryer.

This could be something as simple as a loose or stretched out belt to a jammed pressure roller to a bad motor. could also be the drum is not mounted right due to worn out or missing felt pads and is causing a binding at the front or rear of the unit.

Inglis Gas Dryer... mercy me?

Sounds like what you said. Time for a motor. The motor has an internal overload and will shut the machine off if the motor runs hot.
Good Luck

Baby lock serger motor slows down after sewing 20 minutes. Why?

Call your local service shop. Baby Locks in closets for years usually have this problem The manual recommends annual maintenance by a pro, and they will oil the internal lobes of the feed dog apparatus. It cannot be oiled from the outside, nor with covers off, but must be taken apart. If those lobes lose the oil and heat up you will feel "surging" then slowing repeatedly -- fast then slow then fast etc -- until the lobes over heat and sort of weld themselves to that small barrel looking case. So a Baby Lock can sew, then temporarily be sluggish then later slow till sluggish; and at worst, seem to be doing everything right BUT not advancing the cloth -- that's when the worst damage is done and professional repair is needed. In PA might cost $150 to fix. $70 in parts; $80 in labor (2012 prices)
Been there, done that.

When the dryer is turned on, it usually starts slow

Could just be the drive belt, or the motor starter is faulty.

My dryer doesn't want to get syarted every time i try start a noise and the minutes space say E5,can you help me please

it sounds like the motor is getting weak. This is one of those parts that you have to ask yourself is the dryer worth fixing as it will be around $150 for the part. if you are able to fix it yourself it will be worth it if not then replace it.

Gas dryer makes loud hum

Sounds like you may have a motor issue, they can get lint trapped inside, and it causes the motor to overheat, and eventually go out. You can remove the top, then the front, and see if thats the problem. Usually, once the motor starts making noise, its time to replace. Right now, the packings in the motor are cold, and once they heat up, they stop making noise, so it could last quite a while.

Dryer runs only when "Start" button is being pushed

--Bad motor run windings
--bad motor switch
These are two possibilities. How old is the dryer. may not be worth it. get the model# from the dryer & price a motor. (new motor cures both of these possibilities)
