Touchpad won't work on my Gigabeat F40

All of a sudden the touchpad on my gigabeat won't respond. It's fully charged, the power, menu & volume buttons on the side do work, the hold button is not on.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be or what I can do?

Toshiba Gigabeat F40. Same problem: Volume decreases to zero with no operator action on a fully charged battery. Welcome to the club. That is just the straw that broke the camels back with this Toshiba product.

Problem resolved. I found replacement touchpad on ebay, installed it and everything works just fine. replacement touchpads very inexpensive too.

My touch pad didn't work wither, but i just took off the rubber mounts from behind the battery that were pushing on the touch pad. It works fine now. No need to buy a new one.

Mine did the same, touch pad became erratic then stopped working, I could still access everything when linked to a computer. Then all stopped, on power up I got a 00000010 or 0000020 error and nothing.

I popped the end caps off, removed the two small screws holding the back on and found the strap of wires connecting the hard drive was almost completely dissconnected. Pushed the connector back together , reassembled and now all working

Battery is dead

Identical problem - working only with power cord.
Wont power on battery or usb cable.

I actually opened player and check every single option.
(I am experienced electronic - tech.)
Result: battery is fully charged (768 mA/ 3.97V on bench)
Battery switch on bottom fully functional. (switching on/off 3.97V
comming from battery)
USB supply 5.0 V in perfect order.
Conclusion:
There is no "EASY" fix for this problem.
It is either problem with firmware (low possibility)
or semiconductor on logic board (practically not fixable on DIY basis)

I bought my Gigabeat 60Gb for $ 70.00 used on Ebay so
I will live with this problem.

well, it would be really easy to take off the battery. The battery is simply plugued with a little 3-pin wire, u just pull on it and put it back in. Now to open that gigabeat, its pretty easy. I even got some images for u. Go at this website (its for the F10 and u have the F40, but its the same thing): http://www.angelfire.com/bug2/gigabeat/
