Question about Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Upgrading to AVG 8 from the 7.5 purchased version

I recently purchased your AVG up-grade(your invoice number W0324889) order no. AVGUK_U493468 7.5 and an offer to upgrade to version 8 has appeared on my screen but it won't load successfully. I have an error showing 0x80070005. I have tried several times without success - please advise. Also AVG is saying my license number is invalid.

Hi Collin there are several likely possibilities:

1) AVG keeps an extensive black lists of compromised
serial numbers.

These are numbers that have been published on the internet,
or numbers that have been associated with too many different
IP addresses during the download of automatic updates.

If a black listed serial number is detected during the daily
update sequence, Grisoft will send you a Trojan update
which disables your product.

2) A black listed serial number from the original installation,
may also propagate to any updates installed over the
top of it.

3) Also, AVG has become the target of many viruses, root kits
and Trojans that have found a way to hack it, remove it and
even prevent it from being re-installed, including many
"beagle" varieties.

4) AVG will not detect nor identify these viruses, even if you
manually find and scan the file.

AVG will however identify many false positives, as well as
most key generators designed to crack it (AVG).

5) The first thing you can do is contact AVG and complain
loudly in Czech or English. Their head office (Grisoft)
is in Brno in the Czech Republic.

6) Scan your machine with another product (!!!), including:

Rootkit Revealer (Free from Winternals/Mark Russinowich)
Black light (Trial ware from F-Secure)
Kaspersky
McAfee
Norton
etc.

I have had my AVG installation hacked by malware at least
a dozen times in the last year, so I no longer trust it. I still
use it, but I use a multitude of other products ad well.

Use only well known and reputable (brand name) products,
beware of hundreds of ROGUE scanners out there that are
themselves viruses and try to milk you for money.

7) Keep in mind that NO anti-malware product detects
everything, not even close, so you are fighting a loosing
battle.

8) Once you are reasonably confident that your machine is
clean, by using other products, totally remove AVG and
re-install it.

Isn't it ironic that you have to clean your machine BEFORE
you can install the ANTIVIRUS ?!!!

9) If you can't get your legit serial to work, do what all honest
angry customers do.

Go to a crack site, get yourself a bogus serial or a key
generator (check it for viruses with another product, not
AVG), Install AVG plus the current updates, before number
gets black-listed, and then DISABLE the automatic updates
in AVG as well as the Windows Scheduler Service.

BTW. Keep your key generator on a CD, because AVG
may detect it as a virus, and try to destroy it.

Martin

PS
If your software is legit, but the serial does NOT work, then:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
www.mscracks.com used to be the best site for serials,
but their domain name expired about a week ago, so I don't
know what gives.

crackspider is another one.
also try: Pirate Bay

Always disable scripts in your Firefox, before
visiting these sites, some may try to hack your
computer.

I have purchased AVG Driver Update. Computer was compromised so had it cleaned? Have not used for a month. Order No: 31 1606079.The key advised on that invoice is not recognised by AVG ?? Please help

AVG do not supply a driver update programme, I believe it is issued by a 3rd party, and this is more than likely what caused your computer to be compromised. You do not need a 3rd party software (especially a paid one) to update your driver as Windows update does a pretty good job of this for you. DO NOT REINSTALL THIS SOFTWARE!!! And I would advise you check your account that you used to pay for this software!

Install AVG which I purchased 17 August 2014. Licence Number TMNPT-7OYJQ-NUQU2-A4NCL-QD9Y7-MDW17

Only AVG can help you with this. Not a good idea to publish your key for AVG as anyone can use it! I would delete this post if I were you.

AVG, programme is blocked by group policy ?

If you installed the free version, they sometimes give a popup that says it needs an upgrade. When you upgrade, you actually are upgrading to a payed version, you get for free for 30 days. When the 30 days are over you have to pay or AVG does to work anymore.
But you don't need AVG anymore.
The Microsoft security essentials does protect you computer as good or even better then AVG and it is really for free.

Avg problems

You have got the correct version for your computer haven't you? I would try logging on to the AVG website, then try installing again. If it still fails, go to their Support tab on http://www.avg.com/gb-en/avg-pctuneup . It might be worth trying to run their Free Trial vs. and see if that works?

I received an email invoice from "iTunes Store [do_not_reply@itunes.com}." Order no. 6871265, $783.99 total. I did not order anything from the iTunes Store. I replied to that address, and have received...

Hello hnuss,
That order number is a fake order number (so it seems) but just in case I suggest you contact iTunes Customer Support immediately and have them look into this further for you.
I heard there was a fraudulent email sent by (Not Apple) but someone else with fake 'invoice' information and purchases.
Here's the link for you to skip searching all over Apple's website :) http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact.html

Are you running AVG 8 free anti Virus? Did you install it recently? There are some reports that AVG 8 free version has some issues causing this to happen with VISTA. If so try printing with AVG turned off (Careful where you go on the internet while it is off - suggest a trusted site like microsoft)

Then try with AVG running and disable IE7 protected mode,

Click Tools, then click Internet Options.

  1. Click the Security tab.
  2. To disable Protected Mode uncheck the box next to Enable Protected Mode to disable it.
  3. Click OK.
Note: Enabling or disabling protected mode requires Internet Explorer to be restarted

If it is AVG causing the issue perhaps try and see if they have a later version available as it is not recommended to run with protected mode disabled
