Suggest reinstall the audio driver.

The device is the audio chipset.
The Windows operating system was not stated.

Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.

Stating HP Pavilion dv2000 is just stating the model series.
When installing a Driver, there are TWO main things needed;

1) Operating System (Which version of Windows)
2) Model number
For HP and Compaq computers we will go with the Product Number.

On the Bottom of the laptop is a white Service Tag.
P/N = Product Number

Please post back in a Comment, and I'll step by step you through downloading AND installing the audio driver.

Also go to Device Manager, and look to see what audio device is used.

WinXP:
Start > Right-click on My Computer > left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
Left-click on the Hardware tab. Left-click on Device Manager.

In Device Manager, left-click on the + sign to the left of -

What does it state?

I have an Intel 965 MB and device manager shows it won't load the High Def Audio Drivers. The Optiarc AD-71905 reads data files OK but won't see or read audio disks. Have re-installed the intel...

Hi surrybillgoa

to the best of my knowledge, Intel 965 is not a Motherboard Model. I believe it is an Intel Chipset model which features on various Intel Motherboards. See here:

The Drivers to run most Optical drives are built into most Operating Systems, so additional Drivers are almost never required. Firmware updates can improve the performance of Optical Drives but they can rarely repair serious faults. Your Optical Drive appears to be a discontinued product with archived potential firmware (please read the clear important warnings before downloading and installing any firmware from this site for your drive). See here:

http://www.sony-optiarc.eu/supportservice/downloads/archive/downloadsarchive/dvddrivesdesktoppcs/ad7190s.html

You don't say which Operating System you use, so my answer will be presented in general, Windows terms. If yours is a non-Windows Operating System and my answer seems to be of some relevance to you, please consider applying the logic and principles involved here to your own Operating System and, if in doubt, please feel free to add a Comment or Clarification to this Question. You also don't say if you are using the on-board sound or a separate, dedicated, internal or external Audio/Sound Card. Please include information about the type, model and specification of your computer, its Audio Chip/Sound Card and its Operating System. Doing so helps us makes faster, more accurate and more assured Remote Diagnostics leading to better quality and more useful Advice, Answers, Guidelines , How-Tos and Solutions.

If no Audio Device is showing on your Operating System's desktop, then this is probably a BIOS Settings, Audio Driver or Audio Device Settings problem. Try 2 things first:

Make sure the Audio function in BIOS is 'Enabled' and then save those new BIOS Settings.

To enter BIOS Setup, Press 'F2' or 'Del' during the first POST Screen at Start Up.

Check the status of the Audio Device and the Audio Driver in Device Manager.

Start > (My) Computer > (System Properties) View System Settings > Device Manager

This will tell you if the Audio/Sound Device is installed and functioning properly and if the Audio/Sound Driver is installed properly. If a red 'x' or a yellow question or exclamation mark appears next to the Audio/Sound Device, then there is probably a settings anomaly, fault, error or conflict with the Audio Device and/or its Driver.

AUDIO DEVICE SETTINGS
For your Audio/Sound Device to function properly, it must be set as the Default Device:

Start > Control Panel > (Hardware and Sound) Sounds and Audio Devices > (Manage Audio Devices) Audio > click on the preferred Default Playback device > Apply > OK > restart computer.

AUDIO/SOUND DRIVER PROBLEMS
Re-install the correct Audio/Sound Driver that relates to BOTH the device and your Operating System, then restart the computer. Install the Audio/Sound Driver either from the motherboard's Drivers and utilities CD or from the Intel Driver Download Centre, entering the motherboard's full model number:

If your Operating System is not included in the list of Operating Systems listed on the Intel Support pages for your board, then it is highly probable that no Audio/Sound Drivers exist for that Operating System. If you are committed to both this Motherboard and an unsupported Operating System but all the other Devices and their Drivers are installed and working properly, then consider buying and installing either a basic 5.1 or 7.1, internal PCI Sound Card or an external USB Sound Card that is pre-confirmed as being compatible with your Operating System. Both are inexpensive. See examples here:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_3_10?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=pci+sound+card+5.1&sprefix=pci+sound+

I hope this helps.

No audio device is showing on my gigabyte 7vm400m-rv motherboard. what pin connections should there be to enable this function

Hi Steve

You don't say which Operating System you use, so my answer will be presented in general, Windows terms. If yours is a non-Windows Operating System and my answer seems to be of some relevance to you, please consider applying the logic and principles involved here to your own Operating System and, if in doubt, please feel free to add a Comment or Clarification to this Question. Doing so helps us makes faster, more accurate and more assured Remote Diagnostics leading to better quality and more useful Advice, Answers, Guidelines , How-Tos and Solutions.

You also don't say if you are using the on-board sound or a separate, dedicated PCI Audio/Sound Card.

Pin connections on the motherboard relate to the Front Panel Audio Connectors on the front of your Computer only.

If no audio device is showing on your Operating System's desktop, then this is an Audio Driver or Audio Device Settings problem, rather than a motherboard Front Audio Panel Header Pin Settings issue.

Start > (My) Computer > (System Properties) View System Settings > Device Manager

This will tell you if the Audio/Sound Device is installed and functioning properly and if the Audio/Sound Driver is installed properly. If a yellow question or exclamation mark appears next to the Audio/Sound Device, then there is a settings anomaly, fault, error or conflict with the device and/or its Driver.

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2323#dl

Please note that this motherboard supports only Win 95/Win 98/Win 98SE/Win ME/Win 2000/Win NT/Win Server 2003 (32 Bit)/Win Server 2003 (64 Bit)/Win XP (32 Bit)/Win XP (64 Bit) and possibly also some Linux Distros (Operating Systems). If your Operating System is not included in this list, then it is highly probable that no Audio/Sound Drivers exist for that Operating System.

If this is the case, then consider buying and installing an inexpensive, basic 5.1 or 7.1 PCI Sound Card that is pre-confirmed as being compatible with your Operating System.

For motherboard pin settings diagrams, download the manual for this motherboard from here:

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Gigabyte-GA-K8VT800-manual/id/23286ag203/t/2/

MOTHERBOARD FRONT PANEL AUDIO HEADER SETTINGS
Pin 1 Left is usually MIC IN
Pin 2 Left is usually MIC BIAS/MIC PWR/MIC 5V
Pin 3 Left is usually OUT RIGHT
Pin 4 Left is usually GROUND/GRD
Pin 5 Left is usually OUT LEFT

Pin 1 Right is usually MIC GROUND/GRD
Pin 2 Right is usually Empty/Blank
Pin 3 Right is usually RIGHT RETURN
Pin 4 Right is usually Empty/Blank

I hope this helps.

Audio sound problem...need to download driver device for sound...but how???

Hi,
It shouldn't be a problem. Before trying to download the driver. Lets try this. 1. right click 'my computer' select 'Manage' 2. Click Device Manager and goto 'Sound video and game controller' 3. Under that you could see some 'audio device' based on the model. 3. Right click and uninstall it. 4. right click 'my computer' in top of the device list in device manager 5. Click 'Scan for hardware changes' 6. Sometimes it will automatically install the audio drivers.
Verify if the sound is working. If not, goto the web site of the PC manufacturer and goto 'support and drivers'. Specify your PC model and the operating system. You can download the drivers then and install it.
Please come back and rate my solution if it turns to be helpful for you or also if you need more clarification. Thnx

If there is no sound you will probably need audio driver.

You c an download audio driver from factory website.

For example this are the drivers for C700. Compaq Presario C700 Notebook PC series - Download drivers and

You need to find the proper drivers for your own model.
