Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TRV12 Camcorder

1 Answer

I did not use Handycam TRV 12 camera for several years. When I tried it now I could see the picture through the lens. I then opened the cassette compartment to see if one is inside. It opened and there was a cassette inside. However I could not close it. When I press the cassette compartment will close then open. I took batteries out and closed the cassette compartment but it was still out. Now with all new batteries it does not show any sign of life, the cassette compartment is sticking out and would not go in. I do not see any electrical signal. What to do?

First off if the unit is not getting power then you got a fualt inside the camera. Due to age you might be paying what it cost for a new one to get repaired.

Just in labor cost your looking at $120 bucks then the hard to find parts. You might be better off shopping for a newer camera shoot you can get a nice HD camera for under $200 bucjs in most cases.

So to be very honest with you I would recommend recycling this camera.

Thanks

Condensation errors are quite common and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.

Tape Wont Play

My advice is that you should by a cleaning cassette. Put this in the camera and run it for 10 to 20 seconds only. running the cleaning cassette for a long time may damage the head.
good luck!

I own sony camcorder model TRV 238. Once I play the cassette it gives me error code c 31 . 22. with the dialogue reinsert the cassette. I tried all the available option in manual. They did not work. kindly...

Error C:31:22 means problem means that System Control is not getting Take-up Reel pulse. This can be electronic or mechanical problem in camcorder.

Qualified camera tech will fix it properly.

Can not eject tape

I had same problem, while transferring media from TRV-16 to DVD, tape would not play, then would not eject. This after transferring several tapes to DVD. I tried several things over the last couple months that did not work before finally getting it open today. It did me no good to remove several of the outer panels that were each held by two "tiny" phillips head screws each. Went to the internet, found your post, also found a post that referred me back to SONY page which follows.......

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the cassette compartment will not open or the tape is stuck and will not eject.
IMPORTANT: If your camcorder model has a RESET button, first try pressing this button. If there is no RESET button, or pressing the button does not resolve the issue, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.
  1. Turn off the camcorder.
  2. Remove the battery from the camera.
  3. Remove the AC power supply from the camera.
  4. Slide the power switch on the camera to the VTR , VCR or CAMERA mode for 15 seconds.
  5. Slide the power switch back to the OFF position.
  6. Connect the AC power supply to the camera.
  7. Attempt to open the cassette compartment.
"NOTE: If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required."

After I did this, I could hear a whirring sound when I hit eject, although nothing came out. While the whirring was going on, I pulled up and out with constant pressure and the cassette holder opened. The tape had jammed apparently as the little protective plastic tape guard was jammed partially open when I pulled the cassette out. Good Luck and don't be afraid to put a little pressure on the door if you can hear the door trying to open.

Now I turn to recovering the tape, but having grown up with cassette decks, don't believe it will be a problem.

Cassette stuck

If battery is fully charged and unit still will not open, try removing the tape door and see if there is tape wrapped around capstan or ther parts. If you cannot find anything apparent, take unit to qualified pro tech

Sony Handycam CCD-TRV 72 cassette door locked open

Sorry I can't directly help with your problem but I advise you the repair cost at a repair shop would probably cost nearly as much as a replacement...

Unless you have a handy friend who works cheaply you won't lose anything by repairing it yourself. You will probably find some useful how-to videos to help you on Youtube.

"reinsert the cassettee" error in Sony HandyCam CCD-TRV 438E.

The camcorder most likely is not detecting the tape, you have a bad sensor and these sensors all come on a flex type board and the flex board is mounted on the chassis surface. This will mean that the entire mechanism will meed to be diassembled, and is a very big and costly job. My opinion is that this repair will run you abut 250 to 300 bucks and this camcorder is not worth this as new camcorders are under 200 bucks. Good Luck
