Question about Tomtom GO 920 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Software update Tomtom "Home" indicated a software update was required for my unit. Once installed I could navigate to an address - no problems BUT couldnt navigate to a point of interest (POI). I reset the unit and tried again - fine for a POI but then wouldnt navifgate to an address. I found which ever I sellected first (POI or address) I couldnt navigate to the second without a reset. I discussed with TomTom who confirmed they were having "some issues with a number of 920T models". There does not seem to be any reference anywhre to this issue but I cannot be alone in this. H\ad to download old software and running fine on that at present

IS TOMTOM N14644 A LIFETIME UPDATE

You will know if your (specific) unit comes with a free life-time map update if it says so on the retail box that it comes in. Usually there is an "M" ... indicating free Map updates. A "T" indicates free Traffic (info) updates.
Otherwise, you can register the unit (on the TomTom website), and use the TomTom HOME software .... to find out. When you connect the unit to your computer running the TT HOME software, it will automatically tell you if/when you have updates ... including any free map updates

How do i update my tom tom one

When you connect your TomTom to your computer (USB port) ... you can use the TomTom HOME software to check the updates available for your GPS.
This assumes you've (previously) registered your GPS on the TomTom website, and you have TomTom HOME installed on your computer.
If not, register your TomTom on the TomTom website (identify it with your email address), and install the TomTom HOME software on your computer.
Then when you connect your GPS device to your computer, the TomTom HOME software should start up (or you can start it up), and you can log into your TomTom account ... and the HOME software will automatically search and let you know if / what updates are available for your GPS.

Everytime I plug in my Tomtom a Red X appears. I don't know if this is a problem or what I should do about it.

Hello Pat, Welcome to my page of expertize. Thank You so much for choosing me.

This is what you do. This is pretty easy fix.

If your navigation device displays a cross after you switch it on, it means that the TomTom application is not installed correctly.
Note: It is normal for the navigation device to show a cross while it is connected to the computer.

The solution depends on which TomTom software is used for updating. Check which software yournavigation device uses for getting updates.
Devices using MyTomTom for updates
For navigation devices that use MyTomTom, reset your device.

It is quite common tomtom bug.
Do: 1. backup restore or 2. copy all original SD files to your new formated SD card. Restart TomTom and see if it works.

Register my tomtom

To update your unit you must create an account by supplying a valid email address. I suppose this is akin to a registration.
To effect that you install the Tomtom Home software on your computer. Then you connect the unit to the computer. When it asks you if you want to connect to the computer, tap Yes and the HOME software will open allowing you to update maps etc. You will be asked to create an account.

How to upgrade my tomtom GO

Install Tom Tom Home software on your home computer. Attach the navigator to the computer using the included cable. Follow the prompts to update your unit.

If you don't have the cable, it's a standard USB 2.0 to Mini-USB cable.

If you don't have the installation disk, you can get Tom Tom Home here:
