Question about John Deere Garden

2 Answers

I have a John Deere backpack blower made by Echo (#PB4500) for well over 10 years and it worked like a charm. The other day while I was using it to clean off my driveway, the engine froze up. Couldn't budge the pull cord or move the fan blade at all. I took the engine covers off but couldn't see a problem (e.g., debris jammed in the blade). I then used penetrating oil and WD40 around all of the moving parts I could see (didn't take crankcase apart) and finally got blade to turn manually; although I did observe some friction in spots as the blade turned. I then tried to start the engine without success. The blade turned when I pulled the cord but the engine wouldn't start. Since the blower is very old, I thought that maybe the piston assembly would have to be rebuild or replaced. But, is it worth it?? Could it be something else?? Can I even find the parts??

Depends whats wrong with it...remove muffler and check for scored or blackened piston...if this is the case cheaper to replace unit..

Broken recoil starter rope on John Deere 5E Backpack blower. Is there an on line tech diagram showing assembly?

No, there isn't.
You have to take it apart, and make sure the spring doesn't get loose, or you'll have to rewind it. There's probably enough to just re-knot it if you're real lucky. Would it be for sale?

What is the mix ratio for the troybilt 25cc blower?

Troy-Bilt products now are usually produced by Mtd, the ratio being 40:1.
However since John Deere made yours I'm 99.9% sure it should by 32:1.
In any case any power equipment you own (including Dolmar or Stihl) that takes an oill/gas mix benefits in the long run from using the richer 32:1 ratio. It protects the piston and cylinder much better, giving your equipment longer life. Do not use the "one mix for all" that you find at retail stores as it has been my experience it really isn't "one mix for all". Seen a lot of scratched pistons and broken rings from people using that.

Echo backpack blower stops after 20 minutes

Make sure the fuel tank cap inlet valve is working properly, this will allow a vapor lock if it is not. Then check the fuel line in tank to make sure the pickup filter is not hung up in tank thereby allowing the fuel to get below the pickup. Also check the fuel line for holes. You can also try toro.com customer care, manuals and parts, type in model no. then get owners manual and see if in troubleshooting section it list this problem.
